I'm not sure if this is the correct forum, mods please move if I'm wrong.

I need some help cutting a piece of music from 3min 44s to 1min 40s for a skating competition. I think I know the parts I want to keep but I'm really struggling to figure out exactly where to put cuts and then how to put it back together cleanly. I have been using GarageBand on my macbook and I get the feeling it's not the best software to use for this sort of thing.

Can anyone help me out? I assume I'll need better software and an idea of where I should cut.

Thanks,

Siobhan

How do you use it? I tried before and every time I imported a piece of music it was compressed into 0.3s!

I find using Adobe Premiere/Apple Final Cut for cutting music/sound files together to be the best option(s) even though its not primarily what they're designed for.

Audacity works well at this, so does Garageband if you're patient(!), you have to make sure you import the audio file in the correct format as it doesn't like some - sorry I can't remember which ones it likes and doesn't like off the top of my head, perhaps Mike can step in??

I managed to figure out what was wrong with Audacity. I was trying to import a file that was ripped with itunes and it really didn't like the format. I changed the format and now it's loading ok. I still have no idea how to put it all together though :(.

I only use Audacity with flac, wav and mp3 files, but I think it support ogg also.

When do you need the song by? I could have a go at cutting it, can't promise anything though.

Ideally I'd like something to use in my lesson tomorrow morning, realistically I need it for Friday morning.

just select the parts you want, cut copy and paste until you're happy. then save, burn, etc.
