HTC Hero, coming July on Orange and T-Mobile, makes me want!

I too usually hit the . button when im typing in portrait mode, but after using the phone in landscape mode now its dead easy to type and not hit the wrong key :)

hello people.

Just to let you know I have a g2 on tmobile and have updated the rom to MCR 2.3 and updated the radio rom to 63.18.55.06EU_6.35.06.18.

Everything is working great and I strongly encourage people to look into updating their devices.

Everything you need to know is here and here

I'm bored/fed up with my N82/S60 and very tempted to get a hero from mobilephonesdirect on Vodafone.

Would the phone be branded/locked from them?
If it was Vodafone branded does the new rom work on it?

I don't want to get it only to find out I can not put the latest official rom's on, nor do I want to root it incase something goes wrong.

Cheers.

It should be fine to put the official rom on it, only Orange and T-Mob seem to make you unable to update roms without rooting/waiting for a new rom from provider.

The Orange rom update is available on the HTC website without the need for rooting.

It is indeed and by the looks of the number on it, it's older than the HTC one I have on the phone so I'm not bothering with it.

I'll be rooting and installing other roms anyway.

is it any good ? im finding my battery dies really quickly since updating my rom to a custom one.

Really?

I'm running the HTC one from MoDaCo (unmodified official release but actually installs :p) and mine is running fine, I get quite a while from my battery. But then I've turned off all data stuff, so only connects to WiFi/Data when I want it to, and have installed App Killer to turn off all extra apps from the background.

invader how did you get it to only use data/wireless when it needs to?

ideally i want it to check email every hours by turning on wifi, looking for a wifi network then if it cant find that turning on data to retrieve. after it is does to then turn them both off?

also, getting it to do the same thing when i am browsing would be good too.

at the moment i have the widgets on my home screen for manually activating them.

im running the modaco rom aswell, and i charged my phone during the night and by 11 it was down to 50% i had all the mobile conections turned off, no wifi or gps either, i then chraged it in the van and its lasting better now

Maybe i have a duff battery .

GPRS data runs in the way you want it to, it'll only connect if there is no other active data connection (ie WiFi), I changed that in Network Settings.

WiFi though I have to manually turn on and off, which isn't a problem at all for me as I don't use it that much and have the widget on my 2nd screen.

Didn't you post about the battery icon flashing when it was charging?

If so, you've got a duff battery, just plugged mine in, no flashing icons etc. lightning bolt symbol is sold and doesn't pulse or flash.

On standby I get loads of time, I used about 1/8ish or so whilst on the phone for 1hr 15mins the other day, so I can't see why your one dies so quickly unless it has a duff battery.

ta invader.

the last thing i need to do is work out how to get delivery reports for messages. The old sony ericsson t68s had a great screen notification that popped up once the mesage had been delivered. I wonder if the htc can do this too :P

Cheers for the reply :)

I,ve spoken to them on their live help on the website and they have said it would be unbranded/unlocked.
Now I need to decide on which tariff to go for and I'm set.

By the way, I mean as standard the phone connects to GPRS all the time, I changed it to only connect when apps require it to be done, so it only connects say when I tell my emails to be checked, then it disconnects.

Not a clue about delivery reports, never actually used them if I'm honest, I know it tells you if it fails to send a message though. :p

I got one from there, on t-mobile. White Hero, unbranded, and updated to latest ROM without problems. Would recommend them.

Oh - and can confirm the £2.95 gel case thing quoted on some page in this thread... does the job. In traffic yesterday, walloped from behind (the car that is) at about 30mph. Phone was in the tray by gear stick. Found it on the floor after some searching. Not a scratch on it. If only I got a gel case for the car...

:/ I can't root my phone/install apps requiring root.

I've followed the guide on TheUnlockr and the phone doesn't come up with the 'Always Allow' root thing, just does nothing when I do that step and it won't let me run the overclock app. :(
