Alone in the Wild

NO U.

I don't think this guy is necessarily an expert, I think this is the first time he's been away from civilisation for an extended period of time. I wouldn't be surprised if I felt the same way in his situation.

Who thinks Ray Mears should be sent in to sort this big Scottish jesse out. They guy hasn't stopped crying yet!

Go out into the unkown yourself for 50days, you think you can do it but in reality, you will never know untill youve tried.

he hadnt eaten much food, lost loads of weight, very weak, constantly paranoid about bears, and completely alone in the middle of nowhere....

so common, think about it

I watched this too and thought the first three parts were decent enough, but this last one, well, he basically sat and cried for the entire episode.

Half way through I'd already made my mind up not to watch it next week and tbh was quite relieved when he gave up and called for a 'rescue'.

I'm sure it would be an emotionally difficult time for him, but really, his crying did seem a little bit 'excessive'.

He seemed to be one of those people who crave constant human contact, for whatever reason; maybe he needs constant reassurance or something.

He said it was a boyhood dream to do it and yet he did nothing but complain about it the entire time. In fact the only time he wasn't complaining was when he was eating, or had just eaten. Plus, it wasn't as if he was in any real danger - an airlift was just a radio message away and he had his two guns and an electric fence for protection against the bears.

Personally, I would love the chance to do something like that and would grab it with both hands; the only danger with me is that I wouldn't want to come back.

Tbh it was a bit of a gash series. Why did they send an emotional wreck of a man out into the wild, so we can watch him cry for hours on end?

I wanted to see him do more outdoory type stuff rather than watch his constant snivelling.

He was unprepared for this mission he's undertaken and so is now paying the price!

I think he was prepared as far as camp craft goes; he obviously went on a few instructor led courses on setting up camp, wilderness food, bears, etc. I just think he made one or two poor decisions early on and never anticipated the fact that he would be alone.

But saying that though, he wasn't actually alone in the true sense - he had people sat waiting at the other end of a radio the whole time. Plus he knew he'd be out in 60 days, had a fair bit of food and means to get more food.

Actually, the more I think about it the more I agree with the OP and that we should have sent Mr Mears in to sort the big girls blouse out!

If he had been allowed to hunt the big game that were around him it would have made for a better series. Most of his extreme emotions are linked to him verging on starvation, if he had a food supply and wasn't losing weight rapidly he would have coped with missing his gf and the like so much easier. He was in a constant downer towards the end and had no energy or desire to pick himself up out of it

Not sure about being scared about the bears all night but I suppose he could have shot them as well. :p

Alone In The Wild, goes a bit like this:-

1. Wow nature, excellent
2. Enjoying the freedom, childhood ambition
3. OK, feeling hungry now, let's hunt
4. Ate, all good. Wow look at nature
5. Was that a bear?!
5. OK, feeling hungry now, let's hunt
6. Still hungry. WHINGE WHINGE WHINGE
7. Was that a bear?!
8. Still hungry. WHINE WHINGE WHINGE
9. Ate, all good. Wow look at nature
10. Still hungry. WHINGE WHINGE WHINGE

blah blah blah. ;)

I tried to get away with it, but like many others the bloke just got on my **** with his constant crying.

Not really on topic but I've been watching loads of the Bear Grylls programs recently and I really, really enjoy them. He's a bit annoying at times but I think surviving in the wild is fascinating and I would love to try it

That pretty much sums it up for me really. :D

I like Bear Grylls' programs too but he's been exposed as a bit of a fraud recently hasn't he, he still shows some interesting stuff though.

You should try a spot of solo wilderness camping, not exactly wilderness survival in the true sense but pretty close anyway. Living in Sheffield you're not too far from some decent places to give it a go.

What else could he possibly do in the middle of nowhere? Dance for you? :p

The fact that he was unprepared shows he's acting like a woman.
A real man is prepared for anything! :p

Real men are prepared for anything, never heard that one

so if your not prepared for something, and its tough, you shoudlnt cry, kind of a strange one, he said every episode his anger and why he was upset was because he didnt want to quit and be a failure, now thats not acting like a woman to me.
