So I've had my car a year now, I've purposely gone with a mod friendly insurer so the extra on my insurance is only £70.

But, I'm dreaming of a Z4 coupe as my next car, I'm so in love with the looks... unfortunately I'm poor so it's going to be another year to two years before I've saved up for this. So do blow £400 and the extra clutch and tyre wear to keep me going or just just save save save?

What would you do?

Car is a 54 Leon FR 1.8 20VT with 50k on the clock.

The only other thing I'm concerned about is what if my car is already remapped, how would I know? Managed to keep even ground with a clio 182 through three gears last night.

Don't remap!!!
I did with my Octy vRS It was terrible fuel economy went right out of the window!
The standard dump valve isn't up to it either.
Worst mistake I ever made, my car is now back to standard but somehow it has never felt the same.

Really I was hoping it might help economy. My last tank was 24mpg:eek:

sod it. I say remap it. Get the most out of your car before you move on. It may even make those 2 years a bit easier to bare!

£400 is potentially 5% of your next purchase. Bank it! Your remap would not claw back its cost on economy if it was going to increase it :p

What?! How is £400 5% of a Z4 Coupe, they are at least £15,000!

Remap it - it's going to be a while until youve got the cash for your Z4 Coupe so why not make sure you really enjoy your car whilst waiting. £400 is nothing compared to how much you need to save.

15k, now.

Is he buying now?

No. I said potentially as neither you nor I know the true cost of said car when he comes to purchase.

The OP might not be buying a mint example. Who knows!

To be honest if you can afford to save 15k in 1-2 years then if you can get a good finance deal and pay it off in that time scale it's not all that bad!

It must be a dog at £15k, you'll have a hard time getting one for less than £17k. The prices of Z4 have gone up, especially the coupe.

whoever remapped is 'tarded then.

Remap it. It will be far more pleasurable to drive and will make the wait for the Z4 more bearable.
Ignore the economy statement above, it was either a very poor remap or the poster has driven with his foot flat to the floor since getting it!

I think its a pretty safe bet that Z4 Coupes won't be dropping to under £8k in the next 18 months or so!!

Definitely. Z4 prices as a whole have risen fairly significantly in the past 9 months.

i would say if ya gota bit of cash to splash, get it remapped, but make sure yo go somewhere decent and dont get it fudged up like sokdamart, i would have thought could woop a 182 tho even with out a remap,, i can keep up with them , and i dont have a turboooo :(

I would get it remapped it will make a big difference in performace. You should take it to a garage where they will check the car over and rolling road before and after this will confirm it is in good health and if it is currently remapped. You should replace the dumpvalve either way even if the car is going to stay standad, you can simply replace the plastic Bosch one at every service as they are cheap as chips or get a metal forge one.
