Will consoles kill the PC gaming scene?

Consoles are here to stay, I can't see the PC pushing back or making the consoles obsolete. PC gaming is still good, it just means that it has to share a part of the cake with the consoles now so things have evened up a lot more. Too much at times for some or most PC game enthusiasts like myself.:)

Consoles genrally sell more games than pc, so in a sales point of view consoles have an advantage. However there is still a massive market on pc, so as long as money can be made (which it always will be able to due to the vastness of the pc market) games will be made for a PC. In fact the games ported to pc are becoming a lot better of late.

There comes the arguement that the days of big pc exclusives are over as making it an exclusive to the 360/ps3 would bring in more money ...well all you have to do is realize pc is the only system to get starcraft 2, diablo 3 & the new star wars mmo - all of which should offer 100's of hours of enjoyment. That's because it's the only system these games would work properly on.

And as you've proberble noticed, it's not like the days of the n64/ps1/dreamcast where there were tonnes of exlusives for each console. Everything is multiplatform these days. Bar the odd gem.

Finally to actually answer the original question - should you get that new card. No, games which will push the graphics of our system to the max are over for now. Everything is made to run on ps3/360 so as long as you have that much power you will be fine. When the next lot of consoles come out, think about upgrading then.

Well of course GAMES CONSOLES should sell more games than something who's primary functions are not games.
They are easier to use for the purpose.

Only reason I keep my 360 is for fifa 10.

I will always buy a PC version of a title whenever I can in future to help keep the industry interested in the PC.

Games die so quick on console but on PC they can go on for years.

Serious Request:
Can a mod PLEASE make a sticky revolving around this subject. Even if it's just called "Soapbox: Will Consoles Kill PC Gaming, or is it already dead?". It's getting stupid, now.

Agreed absolutely. Even if consoles were killing pc games, a pc overclocking forum is probably not the most ingenius place to set the battlefield.

The only thing that would stop me playing on the PC is when every single console title is in full 1080p, and i can use my mouse/keyboard on it for FPS.

The PS3 is half way there really. I think i might jump completely if the next generation sorts this out

IMO PC is the king of FPS and RPG, console is king of sports type games and fighting games.

I think is would stems from ease of controlls. Keyboard/mouse is useless from experience to play something like Street Fighter but would obliterate consoles on FPS.

WOW has about half the amount of subscriptions as there are xbox 360s live subscriptions

Just think about that.

You can just buy a 360 controller to play sports games on the pc and a fight stick for fighting games.

Every pc game I have played that is also out on the ps3, looks better on pc, loads quicker, runs better, is full HD not 720p and most importantly, the games are cheaper.

If I find myself wanting to use a pad, I plug in the 360 one I have:)

Consoles are alternative gaming, they will never replace the pc games.
