At what age would you stop going to a club?

My father is 51 and still goes to clubs...if I can rave when I reach that age and it's not the indie-pop-with a hint of DnB crap then I hope I can still get into it.

I was like some of you.. I'd say I could never give up going clubbing it was the high light of the week. But when I got to about 25 I really couldn't be bothered any more. Has totally lost it's appeal to me.

Anyone in Manchester heard of this place called Satan's Hollow? What sort of place would that be? Was playing some good music, but then one room was loud screaming music, the other room even had a girls aloud song mixed so it was more rock.

not really able to put an age on it but i'll stop going clubbing when i stop enjoying doing it. That's happened already really and i'm 29. Not bothered with clubs, have a couple that i like and will go if there is a particular DJ etc that i want to see. Other than that a pub then mates house for a laugh seems to be more enjoyable atm.

They're just cattle-markets for people to act like idiots and try and attract a mate. Society doesn't have much in the way of social meeting grounds anymore; we live sheltered, hidden lives. Clubs have become the new Town Halls, except they're overflowing with drunken strangers who grew up in the 'me' generation. When you're 18 and overflowing with ideal, it's nice to think in naivity that clubs are 'great' places, or somewhere to meet a partner. As we slowly grow up, we realise that clubs - which by their nature tend to be generic - are the antithesis of such ideals. When such motivations are driven away with the crashing thunder of realisation, what are we left with? Music and having a little boogie for your own pleasure, and let's be honest here: society has bred a middle-class of tasteless morons. When was the last time you heard a good number one? Clubs reflect this taste in music which is as bland and as shallow as the people who habitually frequent such venues.

You're point is true for a big proportion of clubs but your argument fails because it is just blatantly biased. There are loads of good clubs around that play good quality music and others bring in top quality djs that are far removed from what you hear in the charts. When you move to more specialised, as someone mentioned above 'scene' clubs, the atmosphere is entirely different.

I never said there wasn't. The good places though are few and far between. At university, there were better places but people still acted like pratts. At home again, no such places really exist; the idiots that dwell here flock to the generic **** holes like an addiction.

Anyone saying they go to clubs for music are either liars or strange ones lol........... Who the hell spends all their time, effort, and energy and wastes at least £50 to listen to over-AMP'ed music mixed in with random noises from like 100+ people? Why don’t you just buy a nice iPod and iTunes or stay in and listen to CD’s or something for a better sound experience? Let’s face it; this is an Overclockers forum so it’s fair to assume everyone here has at least a PC and speakers, and from the ‘Show your Desktop Thread’ most are high end PC’s kitted out with top notch audio setups!

I suspect 99% of people are exaggerating and are actually like me, who goes out solely for the people; meet people, see friends and have a laugh. I personally couldn’t give a toss what music the clubs played tbh.

For me personally; I do like the atmosphere in clubs, it’s the type of thing I hate preparing to go out but once I am out I love it! I do prefer pubs and I reason with Nix’s views; they are cattle markets especially places like Oceana in Swansea, surprised they don’t have a conveyer belt going in to the place and when they have 4 bouncers on every entrance to the dance floor, enforcing rules such as no drinks then that completely knocks it on the head for me. Btw anyone saying they pull girls in clubs, I recon that’s bull-****, how can you pull a girl when you can’t talk to her? Half the time you can’t even see her, for the flashing lights, ultra-violent lights and not forgetting the smoke that usually spits out!;)

ridiculous statement

i go to clubs to hear DJs i like playing the music that i love on the sort of sound-system that its designed to be played on . the crowd add a lot to it too because they are mostly there for the same love of the music

and as for the OP i will stop going when i stop enjoying it

feel sorry for half of this thread who either dont know what a good clubnight is or just havent had the chance to go to one. theres something for everyone

Started going to them at about 17, stopped a while ago now, maybe I was 21/22?

Just don't enjoy them personally.

Sometimes this is true. The clubs I went to all had terrible sound though, massively distorted, hardly any actual bass suprisingly, really tinny. A home listening experience far surpassed them. Somewhere like Fabric in London though I'm sure could be a great experience if you get to hear a set you like :)

Fabric is a great place if you like DnB etc. used to go every weekend and thought I'd never get bored of it, how wrong I was :p

I've still gotta get up to Fabric, it sounds like a quality night out. I got a bit bored of Slimelights after my 5th or so trip - there are certain states of mind in which it's not healthy to see neon goths shagging in a corridor by a 7 ft fan.

Havent been clubbing in a good few years now (I'm 28) but I plan on going to Hard House Academy 9 @ Brixton Academy later this month. Ill let you know how it goes :P

Stopped going when I was 19 - I only went a couple of times because my friends were going. Hated the incredibly loud music that actually made me physically nauseous, hated the claustrophobia of so many people in one room, and I hated how it was dark but with bright lights shining from odd angles so your eyes can't focus properly. Plus, it's incredibly expensive.

Going out to a restaurant/bar/pub with mates > any club.
