My cousin was out on the booze last night with a friend and a group of lads knocked his friend to the ground and as my cousin went to his mate aid he 2 was knocked down.

The group of lads then went across the street to a bus stop to sit down so my cousin called the police but he was still a bit dazed from being knocked to the ground.
As he was trying to explain over the phone that he had been assaulted his mate told them that my cousin was a off duty copper (which he is just joined the force)
Suddenly a load of vans turned up.

Just as they were turning up the group of lads came back across the road to my cousin and his mate and my cousin suggested that the all go their separate ways the other guy agreed but as my cousin turned round the guy hit him from behind. Just as he did that a copper came up from behind and told the guy he was nicked for assault on a police officer.
The guy burst out crying at that point trying to apologise to my cousin and he just shrugged it off and got into the ambulance to the hospital.

The guy has been charged with assault on a police officer and apparently hes gonna get the book thrown at him

Nice to know they make a point of it when its one of their own. The cynic in me sees this playing out a little differently if that little bit of information was never shared.

Ah well. All's well that ends well.

The thing is that my cousin would usually have reacted back with a lot of punches and head butts(he`s a well built tough guy but doesn't hit people unless they hit him first Ie he`s not a knob).
I'm more proud of the fact that he didn't react and did the right thing by calling the coppers because all it takes is for him to put one of them in the hospital and his life as a copper would be over

Yes, it is a sad indictment that Joe Blogg's walking down the street gets battered by a group of lads, the cops generally turn up when the group have disappeared, but if you shout down the phone that a cop is getting hurt then they turn up mob handed.... no doubt they would only want to disturb their tea and biscuits for a fellow bobby :P

To me the point is that the guy being a cop is an expert reliable witness. He isn't going to falsely report a crime so the police responded accordingly. The fact the other cop witnessed the second assault meant he couldn't ingore it. I don't see any preferential treatment here.
