You're not going to get a better deal on retail than what's available now.

put 7 on mine the latest build and it crashed all over the place and was generally horrible

Got three PC's using Win 7, no prob's at all just make sure you have Win 7 driver's for all device's, plus l do a clean install and never a upgrade even though you can.

Yeh I loved it the look etc, put all the windows drivers on but then it had a hairy and kept crashing with everything, newsbin especially even in vista mode, Will wait a few months after release for everything to settle then try it again :D

Got win 7 business on the special preorder after using win 7 since the first beta and liking it so much I don't even touch the other O/Ses I work with other than to do testing

7 is better than Vista...

Windows 7 is different than Vista in the same way the a VW Golf is different from a BMW 1 series, which is better is a moot point. Personally having used Vista since day one and having tried W7 Beta and W7 RC for some time now, for me it will be a sad day saying farewell to Vista. Had I not had a copy of W7 bought for me by my daughter then I doubt I would be using it come the end of the month. At least I will still have Vista on my two other PC's so all is not lost :D

I can't agree with that. Windows 7 is an evolution of Windows Vista, and arguably is as stable, feature-packed and polished as Vista should have been from the start. You've only tried the beta and RC, remember there are always bugs, even in the RTM version, just takes a little while for them to be ironed out. For example, Windows XP needed SP2, just like Vista needed SP1, though I think 7 is probably better equipped and stable from the get-go.

I'm looking forward to receiving my pre order later this month, just wish I had the disk already now to install in advance while I have some time on my hands.

I don't think I said that I had found bugs with W7 or alluded to there being any. I was responding to a post that said W7 was the best OS the poster had ever used and I said mustn't have tried Vista then.

I didn't find any bugs with W7 but my preference would be for Vista and since SP2 it is so accomplished it's a real shame it's shelf life wasn't given another 3 years at least.

Probably not , it's just full of junk and complications that I just dont need.I'll stick with XP Pro until it dies I think.

What is, your life, the world, Britain? XP Pro is a bit Fisher Price for the modern world don't you think?

I'm talking about Windows 7 obviously , considering it's a thread about Windows 7.

Why the hostility ? I just dont need transparent windows , snap together windows , widgets or 90 percent of the other little gimmicks included.

I like a nice plain and simple user interface without hundreds of new folders and confusing shortcuts which make my PC experience more inconvenient.

XP still does everything I need it to without asking me 3 million times if I really want to do it. I'm sure there are ways to configure 7 to the users preferences but I don't have the inclination or time to spend trawling through forums to essentially turn Windows 7 into Windows XP.

The o.p was asking for opinions and I gave mine.

I got the upgrade voucher with my vista 64 will be dispatched 5th of november it said. So I suppose I will have windows 7. It's ok I see no advantages over vista apart from less memory used for svhosts. But I've not had an in-depth journet into the land of the 7 just yet.

A lot of ex-XP users I know actually like Win7 or even Vista, infact I even prefer Linux to XP( I removed my last XP OS on one of my PCs and installed Linux awhile aback).

I agree everybody is entitled to their opinion and preferences, personally I think XP should be phased out ASAP,nothing on that old OS that I need or miss.

As for UAC you know its noway near that intrusive,I hardly notice it when it pops up,I'm one of those that prefer extra security that Vista/Win7 has over XP.

End of the day I guess each to their own as they say.

I'm using the Release Candidate at the moment, and will be getting Win7 off the MSDN Academic Alliance (universities getting free MS software) when the RC runs out, which should do me until Win8 or whatever's next.

Or in other words, no - but I would if I didn't get it free :-)

I've tried out windows 7 and had all sorts of problems getting graphics full screen etc, plus various annoying little bugs. Vista however is absolutely spot on perfect and has been so for the past 12 months. Personally I won't ever be upgrading as I much prefer vista, it supports my plasma a hell of a lot better.
