My mate bought a 335d msport coupe today and it was debadged so i didnt know what engine it was until i asked him , I assumed it was a 325i or something and maybe it would be a bit quick perhaps 0-60 in 7 seconds or something anyway we go out in the car and JESUS i was not expecting that the power was just WHOA it just keeps accelerating on and on not bad considering it was replacing an Audi RS4. Does 44 to the gallon too WELL impressed i WANT tbh.

Scared off quite a few civic type-r's etc was very fun,

What are these cars made of magic or something the performance and economy is just insane anyway just made this to celebrate the awesome of bmw diesels

They are very quick, which with 280ish bhp is to be expected. What it wont do, however, is average 44mpg in normal use. Many owners see low 30's and high 20's although this is still pretty damn good considering the performance.

I still fail to see the point.

I can afford a BMW with the biggest engine in the range, oooh, but if I get the diesel I'm assured I'll save pence on petrol!!

Ye my old man had one. They hit 60 in about 6second or something. mighty impressive. The best part though is that they dont even really sound like a diesel. Clearly still not as nice as a 3.5 straight six but still.

I still fail to see the point.

haha fair point though

Most of them are company cars and company car tax is important. The 335d is cheaper on tax than the 335i whilst offering similar performance. In the 5 Series the 535d is faster than the 530i and there is no equivilent 535i in the range - the closest is the V8's and these are much more expensive tax wise.

not only that but if you are claiming mileage, then a diesel is a big advantage over the petrol version. You wont just save pennies ;]

I don't see the point in buying a petrol BMW unless you're buying an M. The diesels are perfect for day to day driving with a lot of shove when you need it whilst giving good fuel economy... and yes, they are good fun to drive.

If you want something special, it has to have a proper M badge.

44mpg is easily achievable in the 335d being a lighter car than the 535d. It will however, only ever come about by staying at 70mph on the motorway.

I dont see how 70mph for a tank of fuel is easy.

I've tried, it's not possible.

Driving home with very bodged engine electrics*, stuck to 70mph most of the way from Southampton to Windermere. The odd moment where I got annoyed at someone pratting about and blasted ahead. Then got to the 10 miles of B roads, found dry road and crisp cool air, couldn't resist a hoon at this point, and being wound up from driving so slowly for 6 hours.

*The 145/6 have 2 relays and fuses in front of the battery, the plugs turn blue. :(

The 6 pot diesels dont sound bad at all imo, I could easily live with one:p

The 4 pots however are a noisy engine, bags of power but sound quite unrefined imo.
