Which one and why?

I say "Nine Eleven" but I have no idea why. I don't say "Nine Sixty Eight" or "Nine Twenty Four" or "Nine Ninety Six" :/

probably not the reason but in USA their emergency services is 911, so maybe saying 9 eleven helps to prevent confusion ?

gone back to this thread and realised it was in motors and there was no mention of twin towers and this is to do with porsche, Fail +1 for me

for me, porsche = nine eleven and US emergency services = nine one one
as it is for most people i suspect

interestingly, in german the porsche 911 is called "Neunelfer" [nine eleven]

Well I'm not American so "911" in that sense doesn't really have any significance for me. I don't remember ever hearing someone calling it a Nine One One so it must be deeply ingrained in the human psyche or something :D

The Porsche nine-eleven. So iconic they even named a terrorist attack after it.

I say nine-eleven too. Not sure why though.

Americans often say nine forty-four and twenty-four. Guess its just how easy the syllables come out.

Was surprised when I dealt with the dealer in Kendal this week and got Porsh instead of Porsh-uh. No class these Cumbrians.

nine-eleven! I'm like you i think you say it like this because its just easier where there is loads more syllable if you exted 924, 968, 944 etc.

Nine eleven. Nine one one is what you dial for the five O, honky.

I suspect most ppl were calling it a 'porsh' until Clarkson accentuated it.

I still do!

On a similar note, how do you all pronounce 'adobe' ;)

Is that supposed to be pronounced ah-dobe then as opposed to ah-doh-bee?

Porsche is Porsh-ah, the dealer staff always pronounce it that way, the company exec's pronounce it that way, thats just how it is pronounced.

"Porsh" is almost as bad as people who call Sony "sonny" as opposed to "So-Knee" :(
