Right,

I very recently got my new PC from OCUK, using PC Configure option, spec:

Intel Quad 2.66Ghz
Gigabyte P43-ES3G
Asus GTX260
4Gb Corsair RAM
500Gb HDD

Now today I noticed that the Graphic driver had had a new release. So wanted to update.

Asus ENGTX260 - downloading from Nvidia website

This is a WHQL-Certified driver for GeForce 6, 7, 8, 9, 100, and 200-series desktop GPUs and ION GPUs.

New in Release 190.62

When I run the set up, it looks to be installing but stops after approx 30sec and states that the system hasn't been update (words to that affect).

I then run recommended Windows settings (to do driver updates) the Nvidia set up runs again, following window pops up:

You are running a 32bit version Nvidia uninstaller on a 64bit OS.

I click exit.

Then another window pops up:

Nvidia Setup Error wrote:
Setup has detected that the OS is not Window Vista/7 64bit. This setup program and associated drivers are for 64bit

Ok, so i left it but the original installed driver was partially deleted by the update so I had no working driver.

So with that I quickly googled and found that having the drivercleaner.net could help.

So paid for, downloaded, safe mode and did a full clean of Nvidia drivers.

I then decided to use the CD supplied with the card to instal the driver I had just removed, AGAIN the same error as above. So now I'm stuck with no drivers and a bit peeved to say the least.

Any ideas whats going wrong?????

EDIT- Device Manager shows the card under 'other devices>unknown device'

When I try to update drivers via this an error comes up stating - drivers were found but windows encountered an error installing it.

Yeah, try installing the correct drivers for your OS, they need to be 64 bit drivers. Try doing a system restore at the point you installed the drivers.

Maybe I should have pointed out that the driver I downloaded was for vista 64bit............

Also the supplied CD has vista 64 bit drivers.....

Well clearly not since it's saying you're installing 32bit...

Download them again, download from another source, try again.

2nd error after clicking next -

So is a 'catch 22' I either have vista 64 and the download is 32bit (error1) or I have vista 32 and the download is 64bit (error2).

I KNOW its a 64bit Vista premium install on the PC, states clearly on system info its 64bit and I have downloaded the driver numerous times from both the Nvidia site and the Gigabyte site selecting 260>Vista 64bit.

In that case run Driver Sweeper (Guru3d.com) toc lean out all nVidia driver files in SAFE mode then reboot and install the 64bit drivers as normal.

You don't need to worry about the add/remove entry, that will auto update with the latest driver uninstaller anyway.

Wah? Read my OP. I already did that.

I got the drivercleaner.net software.

Safe Mode and did a full clean of Nvidia drivers. Then I did a reinstall trying the downloaded update which did not work. Since my OP I have again done another driverclean SAFE MODE and tried the supplied CD. I then went and did another clean and redownloaded the 360>64bit driver...again same errors.

hmm so wafter removing drivers you are basically unable to install new driver set?

Basically yes. No driver currently installed and i can't install one. Not the latest of Nvidia website or the one supplied on the CD that comes with the card.

Never had any issues before. This is my first Vista system and it ain't setting a good impression. Never had issues like this with XP.

just tried an older driver. I still get same error messages.

I give in. OCUK support will be getting a call Monday. Only got this system Monday gone so not even a week old and hardly got anything on it. lol

Ah well.
