I've never understood these, am I missing something, ergonomically?

I think the theory is that they force you to sit more upright which should give you better posture and since your back is neither slouching or supported badly it is better for the health of your back. I can't say I found them anything much other than a bit uncomfortable but in saying that I do sometimes naturally end up mimicking the position they force you to adopt.
Here for some Varier options, getting slightly pricey though but I guess you pays your money and makes your choice...

I think they look gay, and part of a clinical boring 'modern' design trend. They grind my gears for some reason. Good for you, no doubt. But at what cost?. I'd rather sit on a comfy 'normal' chair and not look like a complete tit (imo, ofc).
