Hi, my mind has gone blank and I am trying to figure out how to simplify this equation:

(a.b) 3b
_______

b


Your help would be greatly appreciated :)
 
If the . means multiple then multiplay the top by the 3b, factorize the b out then divide it. That's a quick guess from just looking at it anyway.
 
Is the top of the fraction supposed to be a*b*3*b?

If so, you can just cancel out a b as you have one on the bottom of the fraction.
 
I'm assuming the . means multiply.

(a.b) 3b

Should actually be written:

3b(ab)
b

Anyway:

3b(ab) is simply 3 * b * a * b

3 * b * a * b is 3ab^2 (^2 means squared. In this case b^2 means b x b)

3ab^2 / b just means you need to remove a b. 3 * a * b * b / b is:

3 * a * b = 3ab
 
How is this difficult? Just cancel the b on the top with the b on the bottom, then stick the 3 in front of the brackets.

Why do people insist upon using ^2 instead of ²?

It makes maths posts like these so difficult to decypher some times
