When parked up do you leave your car in gear?

I tend to leave it out of gear if its a flat road otherwise ill leave it in gear on a hill, its what I was tought.

Always in 1st gear and I don't use the handbrake in the winter.

I had a seized handbrake once when I still had old bangers.

Nope, modrern day cars are not made from cheese so making the parking in gear pointless, my dad does it and its annoying getting into his car and turning the engine on and FFFFUUUUU

If it's on a hill then yes, otherwise no.

And those that don't always leave it in gear aren't retards as per a previous post.:P

Right, apart from where a few cars have rolled down hills due to cables snapping and what not? [Modern ones, that is...]

I don't see ANY reason not to, your supposed to put your clutch down when starting. Hardly a hardship putting your foot on the clutch. And besides, your meant to pull off straight away apparently, so you have already pushed the clutch down.

Agree with your dad IMO.

You are completely wrong, modern cars if anything are worse due to the use of disc brakes for the parking brake. These slacken off naturally as they cool down where a drum will do the opposite.

The only reason your dad is annoying is because you are stupid enough to not check the car is out of gear before trying to start it. That annoys the hell out of me, it's pure negligence and falls firmly within the scope of 'driving without due care and attention'.

Saab 900 here which locks the car in reverse, so i have little choice. It was already a habbit though and is something i that i do in cars that do not need to be put into reverse to remove the key. Trouble i have with other cars is finding the ignition, as i am trying to put the key in a non-existant key hole next to the hand-brake.

Same here :) Both my 9-5 and c900s have the gear lever lock. Always waggle the stick and depress the clutch anyway before starting.
