GT300 released late November

Definatly the most likely release date right now, since any later would null any advantage over ATI's supply issues.

Power requirement is also rumored to be around GT200 levels. I'd exect the high end part to be around £350.

oooo

competition, good for prices=good for us consumers

althrough it better be made out of proper stuff rather than wood this time

What? Firstly you do of course realise ATi/Nvidia make their cards IN THE SAME PLANT, with the same incredily low yield process, with Nvidia with a bigger core they can't possibly get more cores per waifer, but likely close to 30-40% less cores per waifer.

Whatever supply/manufacturing issues ATi have, Nvidia have, but also with a larger core that gives less per waifer to start with. Null any advantage? ATi are selling right now.

Power requirements at GT200 levels? no, high end at £350? very very very unlikely. Released in 2009, with anything more than a half dozen available worldwide, no. Nvidia had to fake the part they "showed" while claiming it was real, they lied about it working, yields, the fact its working and the fact they were getting A1 silicon only what a month ago. Its just not going to happen.

The only way Nvidia will sell cheap is if they make no profit, which I'm happy with, it will still push prices down on ATi cards, which is good for us, but I can't see a card listed as pre-order for 2 months will cause price drops.

Hope I'm wrong, but considering Nvidia lied so publically about having working cards just to fake launch their products just to delay people buying ATi doesn't inspire confidence :(

I want 2x5850's, at £150 though, sooner Nvidia come out the better, sooner TSMC up yields, the better for all of us, end users, ATi, Nvidia.

No solid dates about anything, ummm.... November from Fuad talking to some high level guys (no names)...

My guess is they want to see how powerful the X2 is, and then react to that.

I would say this has more to do with putting people off buying a 5xxx series card then anything else and i wouldn't hold my breath on any substantial numbers of these cards being available till next year. Give us something concrete which if they are going to be released properly so soon they could or shut up till there is something concrete until then i smell usual nvidia tactic of trying to put people off buying from a competitor rather then having a product to compete.

Considering Nvidia admitted that Fermi was not in a showable state on that PR stunt they tried to pull on the 5850 launch I'd take any news of a Nov release with large pinches of salt

Believe it when I see it on the shelf in numbers

If nvidia have lied about a november launch just to put people off buyings 5870s this tactic will do them lots of harm come december when they have no card still. They used a mock up card a few days ago to try and fool everyone so i doubt they will have a card ready to sell in another few weeks its just not going to happen.

This happens everytime I upgrade god damnit.

At least the CPU decision was quite easy, I think I'll keep the GTX260 for another month or two.

As already said it is unlikely to be anything but a paper launch with cards available in January.

From their mock up with early silicon it takes normally 2 months to have a working proper card never mind big stocks to suppliers.

Expect "leaked" benchmarks at end of November/beginning December.

As for £350, what planet are you on. The new GT300 is so much more than a gaming card that it will cost to have one.

Personally I expect 10 to 30% faster than 5870 for £400 to £450 and all ATI will do then is drop the price of the 5870 to £250, the 5870X2 to £400 and ATI will still claim the faster "single" card again.

And as for power levels all the stuff I read I read from there "launch" the other day would suggest it being a bigger power hog than the GTX285. Time to buy those 1000W psu lads if you want two in SLI or a GT300GX2.

Personally I hope they release it sooner so I can bag two 5850 for £300 or even a 5850x2.

Yeah if we were going to see these in november i am pretty sure they would have been able to show a fully working card not one made up for them by mfi for their little party.
