**The Dragon Age Origins Thread **

Are there screenshots? GOD DAMNIT i need screen shots.

How did i even miss this? I started re-playing through BG2 a few weeks ago. About to start chapter 3 (made sure to do EVERY quest in Athkatla/Umar/Windspear before going back to the Shadow Thieves with their 15k gold (got 150k gold! ;)). How exciting!

I saw the "Cons" on the first page and genuinely couldn't understand why they were cons! No stupid, unnecessarily fancy graphics a la NWN2! Not an easy blast through (Might i actually get to reload a game and try a different tactic? at last! not just hit things until they die!). All looks good so far!

As much as it seems to be more in the old school vein (BG etc) I wish they'd stop aiming this game at young teenagers with all the immature and overdone blood/sexual themes/heavy metal in their trailers, but I guess that's EA trying to catch the 'in crowd'. It will be 18 rated anyway, ironic really. I guess there will be a lot of mums picking this up for little Johnny, lol...

I remember a few years ago the devs tailking about the game (pre EA days) and it was sounding great as a no nonsense/no gimmicks mature rpg (ala BG2). Hope EA haven't influenced things too much to wreck the original premise.

There's not much better than a classic styled rpg that ticks all the old genre boxes, but it just feels with all the advancments we have now, that the combat should have advanced too :(

How would you like it to be then?

From what I understand of the merger, EA were to have no creative control over any Bioware games... merely handled finance and distribution?

Might have changed, though, but that's what i read at the time it was done.

From what reviews ive seen, the game has been given an 8.5-9.
The pros:
oldschool rpg fans will love it
amazing story
very lengthy like baldurs gate 2

Cons:
Graphics aint amazing
new generation rpg fans the oblivion/mass effect/ fallout 3 era will probably not enjoy this.
pretty hard game for your average player

The two reviews i read dont mention any bugs, and as for the cons some of them are pros for me like being old school and being a hard game that requires you to think about your battles and how you spend your points on levelling up.

At last an rpg thats for the hardcore rpg fans again, if you enjoyed baldurs gate and even neverwinter nights this is really for you.

As for it being consoly, the pc version was made first, so all the consoly stuff is left out. Even for the console its just small changes like the controls and stuff like that.

That is just what I wanted to hear...two of those cons were actually pros, and the other, the graphics, I'm not too bothered by that.

Yes, I remember them saying that too, but EA have said similiar things before then asserted their vision anyway. Its just the marketing is very 'EA' so hopefully that is all they've influenced, not the whole game.

Not sure any so far released screenshots would tell you much (and may even put you off) since their whole advertising campaign has been terrible. Would suggest staying away from all the videos as well if you haven't seen them yet since they have been embarrassingly bad.

The only thing keeping me really interested in this game is the reports from those who have had hands on time with it which paints a completely different picture.

It won't be an action rpg thats for sure. It seems more in the vein of NWN/BG. Tactical, party management etc. Probably have to pause the gameplay a lot if playing on hard, lets hope the party AI isn't as dumb as NWN2 where using puppet mode was the only sane way of doing things.

Combat is the one thing that doesn't need much updating in beardy rpg's in my opinion. Although Mass Effect's wasn't too bad with the pausing, directing party members and skill use for each party member as well.

+1

Mass Effect and Kotor got the balance quite well but I don't want a clickfest, some thought and tactics are a must to make it enjoyable.

never played any of these games before must say though the graphics look amazing will definetly be havingf some of that

why in these sort of games do woman always seem to have their large boobies on show?

It's just not a high fantasy RPG without at least a few good pairs on show. It's like a tradition.

Gameinformer review just been posted.

They don't say all that much but give it a good 9/10.

Sounds good, seems to be living up to what I hope it will be.

...and I like what they say about the music from the trailers not making it into the game :D

Am I right in saying that for classes there are two fighters (human noble, dwarf noble), two rogues (dwarf commoner, city elf), one ranger (daelish elf) and one mage (mage!)?

I'll go with with the Mage... I always play a Mage :p I'll probably try the Daelish Elf when I go for a replay of the game though.
