'Classic' games you just can't get into

There's usually something I like about a game, but there is this one horrific turkey where words fail me, and that's Spore.

I actually chucked it in the bin, and I've NEVER done that before.

FF12 (yeah i know its a console game) got to the sky island and that was it, completely lost interest.

Farcry 2 - It felt like i was playing a game as a 3d character going around shooting 3d things. My point being it didnt feel like there was a story or any point to the game, granted i only played an hour of it.

Crysis - I've only played up to your team getting abducted, it ran so poorly on my 8800 i gave up. I just dont feel i want to play it to see the story line, only to see what the graphics look like on a good rig.

C&C Generals - I started playing this expecting something similar to tiberian sun or red alert 1, i was sorely dissapointed.

The witcher - I dont know if it was the bugs or the fact the dialogue felt ever so slow or boring but i gave up on this one after the keep was being sieged at the start of the game >>

Supreme commander - I think the other people in this thread have said enough, doesnt feel like a game although it looks pretty.

X3 Reunion - X3 beyond the frontier was AWESOME. This however bored me to tears. If i wanted to play an economic simulator id play one ><

The sims - I feel like killing my self when i think of this game.

Tomb raider 1, 3, 4, 5 etc - After TR 2 i just couldnt get into the others.

Left 4 Dead - Yeah its not a classic but im pretty sure it will be. Bought the game, went online. Didnt know what i was doing got owned completley, gave up. Ive been told theres a single player to this game which wasnt obvious ><

Im sure theres more but cba right now :P

It's all about practice, once you've played it a few times you get the hang of it.

Oh and the single player can be found under the big option labed "SINGLE PLAYER" :P
But co op is more fun than single player if you don't want to get owned in vs, humans >bots.

THis game is a lot like CS/CS:S if you've got it later you're going to get owned the first 20 or so times:p

Wolfenstein (original) I was to spoiled by doom.

Silent Hill - I know it's a great game... but prefer RE series.

SF4. I can't get in to it.... I loved the older ones but not this.

The Witcher.

I am sure there are others I will think of soon enough.

Fallout 3 = Tried 3 times, and still never made it past Megaton...

Morrowind/Oblivion
= Just bored me sensless...

Assassins Creed = I've started the game must be 3-4 times and never get past Damascus... just lose interest.

Every Resident Evil game = I have NEVER finished a RE game...

I'm afraid I have to say Deus Ex as well. I bought it on release and have been trying to play it ever since but it just doesn't feel that great a game. Never managed to complete it, not even once.

That's about it. There are many games considered good I really don't like or care about like Assassin's Creed or the Witcher but Deus Ex is truly my one game of shame.

Deus Ex

Struggled to get into it a couple of times when it first came out. Tried it again a couple of years later and this time got quite far into it but stopped playing one day & never came back to it.

Tried once again about 2 years ago but got bored during the tutorial level.

I agree with what someone wrote way back about the graphics, although not always paramount in a game, trying to play something very old will be a challenge in more ways than one, things, games, people as gamers move on. I am certainly a different gamer than say four or five years ago..

Deffo WoW.

Its God awful. How bored must the 30 million subscribers be to pay a monthly fee for that tosh?

Mass Effect isn't that big really - it certainly doesn't take anywhere near months, and if you stick to the core plot, it's really quite short considering the type of game it is.

Spot on, really good core storyline and about 10-15 hours if you just do that without side tracking

A classic game I never got into would probably be Brothers in arms: hells highway or whatever its called. Was kinda expecting COD1/2 and got something I couldn't really get to grips with lol.

Also I'd say Wolfenstein on the PC. Waaaaaaaaaaaaay too many stealth based missions which where all complete garbage and it went down hill in gameplay shortly after that

I really only like the HL1 levels with troopers. The other stuff was just fluff. MP was good though.

COD/MOH played once, but the on rails meant theres no reply value. The MP of COD4 is fun a good bunch of people. The SP with the spawing sucks.

TW Shogun was good. All the others ones didn't add anything for me.

FlightSim. Tried and tried, but I'm always bored after 10 mins.

Falcon4. Takes too much time. I don't have any.

IL2. Sniper gunners. Yeah thats fun. Whats the odds of a head shot or a radiator shot every time.

I never like Quake there I've said it. Weapons suck after Doom 1&2.

Madness!

a lot of peolpe are saying Deus Ex, maybe it wasn't as good as some made out to be

I think it comes down to whether people care about gaming for its own sake or want it to lead to something else. Deus Ex for me is about brilliant delivery of narrative and to some extent, exploration and choice.

A lot of the game elements are lacking or rough around the edges. As a FPS, it's slow paced and often unexciting. It lacks many of the elements that RPG players like. The graphics were a bit rough (even for the time). The AI is shoddy. In short - there's a lot not to like. In some ways it's a bit like reading a novel with a brilliant story but some of the writing being cumbersome, overly wordy sentences and a having tendency to go off at tangents. Plus it's all a bit dated now.

Playing through it at the moment and I still think it's fantastic...

It's a lot more like a book (well several books) than a game the game parts are ok ish but it's the storey that makes you forget you're playing a game and drags you in.
