If a company isn't doing well would you expect it to pay it's staff pay rises? If not, why would you expect the same from the public sector when it isn't doing well?

My company, which employs thousands of people, has had a pay freeze for everyone this year. Welcome to the recession.

Its not frozen forever, and its only if you earn more than 18k.

Just thought I would also add that tax goes back up next year too ;) So you'll have less than this year

Regards,

Welcome to the real world, where there are people losing their jobs on a daily basis.

My pay has been frozen and as far as I'm concerned, it's better than having no job at all.

Whoever gets into power will have no choice but to massively cut spending. As a country we are BILLIONS in debt now... any party that says otherwise are just lying.

Actually the OP's comments have got me so pee'd off with his spoilt brat attitude to employment and pay that I'm going to go for a walk before I say something that gets me banned (coming from me that's something).. back in a few..

Sounds great to me, puts the public sector workers in the same position as many private sector workers where they have had to balance pay freezes with job cuts.

If your skills are more valuable than your current pay, then finding alternative employment shouldn't be a problem.

I'd imagine sacking the million extra staff Labour have wasted money on would be far more unpopular...

this may not be so bad. If the freeze is for a year and effects the increase in living we get each year and not my career progression, eg I climb one scale point a year ill live with that.

Didn't Gideon Osborne say we are all in this together ?

I work in the public sector and I have no issue at all that my pay may be frozen. This country is in the mire financially and hard choices have to be made.

We are, that's the point. Under Labour the public sector has been immune to reality as the pressure has just been cranked up on everyone else to keep funding their (frequently unnecessary) roles.

Except we've seen plenty of examples of people at failed companies getting their huge bonuses and payrises. Situation normal, the rich screw up, get rewarded for it, us little guys pay for it all. Welcome to the club OP.

Indeed, Blair and Brown have been screwing up pretty much constantly for the last 12 years, and we're all having to pay for their incompetence...
