1. looking to add one of these at home to my basic set-up at home.

needs to be easily fitted/ removable and not mark the door frame. I'm only 11 stone so there won't be a gorilla hanging off it :D

just for general upper body work out.

2. is there a good beginners program to use with the chin-up bar.

fitness wise i am at the end of week 4 on 100 pushups.com maxing out at 45 pushups.

I have a Powerbar, £30, does the job. Will fit any doorframe except the very thinnest, takes seconds to put up/down, like 3 seconds, literally. I'm 11 stone and it hasn't marked any doorframe I've used it on yet. It's wide enough to do wide grip chins.

Seconded, got one myself and my room mate used it who weighed about 11 stone no probs.

Like the 100 pushup challenge thing, the same people have a 20 pull up program too.

Or you can just do about 70-80% of your max reps every time you pass the bar.

I have a powerbar, my house is old and falling to bits and im a fat ****.......and it still works really well!

Pity I can only do a bout 3 sets of 5 pullups:(

We all have to start somewhere :)

When I got to the point of being able to do 8X6 widegrip Pull Ups, I added weight by just putting a plate in a backpack, haven't done them in a while but did 6X5 with 5Kgs last time, felt easy, could have done more weight.
The Powerbar held up fine.
