small laptop ordering tale

From Dell... I placed order online, two basic laptops, nothing added to them, normal mainland UK address. Payment went through, order completed etc.

I get an email with a delivery date of 3 weeks, seems a bit long but fine. I check their website near the time and see it's been dispatched. I wait, I wait a bit more and I continue to wait, I get an email asking me to confirm delivery date, name and tel#, I wait some more.

I work from home so basically any date time is good for me, no doorbell, no calls. I try the suppliers link to their courier and keep getting "invalid order no." on the courier site. So I decide to call the supplier, a disticntly Indian sounding fellow called "Mark" answers, turns out there's no delivery date for the order, they won't accept a date and ask me to call the courier....I call the courier, turns out you cannot contact the courier direct, an automated 3rd party company answers, asks you to enter a date and then hangs up, which I do.

More waiting and nothing, I go through the same hoops as before, the supplier can't give any information on the delivery and asks me to contact the courier who has no one to contact.I know which leading brand PC supplier I will NOT be using again.

Seriously though what a damn joke, not meaning to pimp OC but at least you get straight answers and can call someone.

17" screen, 2gb ram, 160gb HD etc, £350 delivered each (or not on this case) iirc

I bought one each for my parents, they just use word and the internet so nothing fancy needed.

update: they just charged me £40 for "failure to deliver"!!!???

This is a wind up right, I'm on internet candid camera or something?
 
This sort of thing drives me nuts, i would be swearing my head off down the phone at all of them!-can you not name and shame those involved?

Was it your parents decision to go with them? That spec for that price can be had in any large laptop supplier where you could have payed for it then walked away with them the same day.

Edit: trying to find the bloody UK support number. These are the guys the scream it.

Edit 2: Nope cant find the thing i'll have another look after lunch. Yum Yum Yum!

They had bought one before and knew the brand. I'm not being funny but when you're not computer literate, finding the on button, sound volume and using the a familiar mousepad is a challenge. I didn't look toohard as the price seemed great, 17" screen for £350? they both wear glasses so this was important.
 
Oh my word, they are charging YOU £40 because THEY couldn't deliver. Cancel order, ring credit card company, get refund or chargeback whatever, go to a proper shop and walk away with laptops today.

Well when you manage to get the money back just go for a drive about one Saturday morning. Pen and paper in hand (Obviously not while driving) and hit the sellers. Supermarkets, high street stores & office suppliers. £350 will get you a no thrills ACER / Toshiba or Compaq (HP). And its worth pointing out that while a 17" has a larger surface area, it also has a higher resolution meaning that typeface sould be about the same size as on a 15.

You can get refurbed machines from the same manufacturer from the online stores of the men in purple shirts. Save some money and hopefully get better service, possibly even pick instore.

I seriously don't know how it's managed to go wrong, their delivery has always been reliable both for personal and business orders. Slow - yes, reliable - yes. It sounds like the courier has been given wrong details somehow.

I'm really perplexed as to how you haven't managed to sort this out by simply calling Dell and explaining what's happened though?
