Implying? I thought I was stating the obvious.

Congratulations on conceding this point.

Calling, Implying, or "stating the obvious" as you put it regarding other members intelligence is not welcome here. Personal attacks are also against forum rules so be careful.

What do 9 out of 11 people enjoy?

Gang rape.. The remaining two consist of a past victim of gang rape, and kgi who first considers the joke teller's intentions and assesses whether or not it is a provocative joke, as if it is he can and ultimately will become defensive towards and critical of said joke.

kgi i think you take yourself and life far too seriously.

Not really, I'm just waiting for someone before I leave the office so it was interesting to pick this thread and see what happens. My first response was sincere though as I felt the OP was an insensitive person, for which I am now certain (look at his response to me). I just think that someone shouldn't go out on the street and start telling racist or similar jokes, right? So why tell them on a public forum - isn't it the same principle?

Could you please point out to me the connection between making fun of the less fortunate and laughing at mishaps like a "football in the groin" or "homer strangling bart" etc? Cartoons such as the ones you mentioned are meant to be comedy, even black comedy. The OP, especially looking at his reply to me, is obviously a mean person and probably enjoys making fun of the less fortunate - instead of simply repeating a joke he/she heard somewhere.

Have a good day.

But what about all those people who can't have kids because of football related injuries, or kids beaten by their dads?

Either everything is open for ridicule or nothing is, you will always, without fail offend somebody.

That's a good pointer and I'll keep it in mind. I appreciate it for drawing me back in line.

Because they are getting hurt and / or less fortunate than you. It's black comedy, some people may take offense and say "OMG WHAT THE HELL the dad is strangling his kids!!!!!"

Or in South Park, so many harsh episodes. Each has a good meaning behind it though.

i think its only funny if you are the sort of person who is sick of sob stories from charities trying to emotionally blackmail you into giving money

Exactly! The point of this joke is that it isn't about disability - it's about the slowly increasing intensity of emotional blackmail in charity advertising, and our increasing jadedness to it.

Not if:

a) It's inside the context of comedy
b) Within a private circle where people do understand you mean "funny"

As I mentioned just a bit ago, you wouldn't go out and make fun of other races in public would you? It's the same principle when you do it in a public forum. no one would find you funny if you said such jokes out in public - wouldn't you agree on this?

There is a fine line that you missed though.

If you see Homer choking Bart it looks funny because it's meant to be funny.

If you see a youtube video with a father choking his son, it's not gonna look funny will it? Even if the dad laughs at the end. That would seem sick wouldn't it?

It's all about context and Simpsons/South-Park etc are set within a comedy context.

It'd look funny if the kid had downs too...

For gods sake lighten up. It is a joke. That is all. Some jokes look to shock like that and the joke part is the  face of the person you are telling who can't believe someone would come up with such a thing.

????

EXACTLY. How can you not apply it to this?

If I was to link to you a real news story and say LOL! and everyone posts then ok, I can see your point.

But we are taking an obvious joke, which isn't even supposed to get you focusing on the boy but on the adverts on TV.

How don't you see the connection, they are both make believe and not real. They are both supposed to be funny. If you don't think they are funny then fine, but you can't say south park is funny/fine with an episode like Scott Tenorman must die is shown, and then say this joke is wrong!

I don't necessarily laugh with everything shown in South Park, the same way I don't laught with every joke pointed at imaginative circumstances/people. I find some jokes of very bad taste and I just pointed it that out.

For you it might have seemed as an obvious joke. To me it didn't. You get both sides on forums with many people - obviously. What I fail to understand is why so many people have - in a way - jumped at me to make me accept it as funny. Any joke can be funny and "unfunny". I tend to have a taste in jokes that excludes those aimed at vulnerable/unfortunate people, imaginative or real - unless within a stated comedy context (show, movie etc).

My initial reaction to the OP was that it was meant as more than a joke (i.e based on lack of sensititivity or simply being mean). His latter reply to me proved just that (in my opinion always).

Have a good day - gotta sign off. This thread has dragged on to much methinks!!
