The Big WWE Wrestling Thread

I just don't feel anything towards Cena. I've seen him in good matches, and i've seen him in bad ones.

Sadly there's more of the latter rather than the former, and most of the time it's just a case of waiting for him to hit his weird shuffle thing, then an FU or an STFU if it's a submission match. It's just far too predictable.

Hes great with the mike, but I dont see him as a great wrestler, far from it. You have Orton, MVP, The Miz, Morrison, Ziggler, DiBiase, these are the guys who can wrestle.

In fairness to Cena, it's not that he can't wrestle. There's a vid on youtube of him wrestling Bryan Danielson in his very early days in the company, and he does more than just get led around the ring by 'Dragon, I'd say he holds his own end up well. The 'E has clearly just decided that they want him fighting the Hulk Hogan "against all odds" style angle.

You guys seem to be railing against WWE, but to me it seems like they simply don't see you lot as their target market any more. They're going back to the late eighties/early nineties style of a more child-friendly pantomime style. Maybe in five or so years they'll try another attitude era, when said children become teenagers, but until then, I can't see much changing.

Hes great with the mike,.

Id say someone just standing drooling on the mic with a blank expression could work it better than cena (see festus for more info). Every cena promo sounds exactly the same, he just gets overexcited and has to suck up to the crowd and start shouting into the mic. He's as one dimensional as they come, generic, boring American stereotypical babyface.

His only saving grace as a character in wwe was when he was doing the rapper gimmick, then as soon as he got the world title that was completley dropped and he became captain generic. He really has no character right now with the exception of being an overexcitable suck up tool.

And the thing that really gets on my **** is he has the nads to call out Dwayne Johnson because he had a better career choice in front of him? Hmm lets see get dropped on my ass multiple nights a year for x amount and end up half crippled by the age of 45, or go and do movies, work a schedule that gives me more free time and get paid much more.. Hard choice that one. Cena should just stfu and try and improve in the ring before whinging about people that are infinitely more entertaining than he will ever be.

Cena tries to emulate the Rock with his mic skills, when in reality he has the mic skills of say Hogan or worse.
All his promos are now delivered in a style that is not that far off from Rocky :(

Hogans mic skills for that era were really well done, there really were only a few that stood out back in the 80's. Id say Jake Roberts and Roddy Piper were two others. Hogan had charisma oozing out of him which was a massive part of his appeal. Cena week in and out has to mention the crowd or suck up to them in some way to get some cheers on his side. Id still place Hogan ahead of Cena in promos these days.

I disagree with some of the comments, I really dislike Cena, but he knows how to at least work the crowd, if thats kids or not, he still does get a response, thats why he sells so much. It beats listening to the Undertaker for 30 mins to say 5 words, thats for sure.

Speaking of taker, whats the point in having a pensioner (legend or not) who by all accounts can hardly walk, become champion?
He seems to only be capable to work one month of the year, comes in and destroys the newest talent and any momentum they have then goes away.
On top of that, it seems hes not allowed/able to lose at WM, not able/allowed to tap out/submit and not able or allowed to lose a HIAC.
Rick Flair went out with far more credibility, helping to put over and improve the newer talent.
Even the likes of DX and HHH have managed to really help (imo) Legacy and make them out to be genuine players.
I have a lot of respect for all that hes done and sacrificed but im not sure what he gives to the show now (apart from the mandatory 30 minute entrance).

I agree. Undertaker needs to retire soon. Watching that HIAC match with CM punk board me to tears.
As for Cena I dont really rate him. No way is he in the same league as the other greats of the attitude era (Thats when I first started watching wrestling)
The last iron man match I watched was back in 2000 when undertaker came back and even though it was the Rock vs HHH (2 guys who I love) it was the one of the most boring matches that I have ever seen.
I really dont have much hope for this iron match in a couple of weeks even though it is no DQ.(maybe if there was blood I might care).
I did enjoy the DX match vs jerishow on monday night and also the united state title match (cant remember the names) was a good match as well. So there is hope somewhere

He only knows how to work them by sucking up to them, its no different to Foleys "cheap pop" routine by mentioning the citys name..which Cena also does. When you have to resort to that to get a response then its obvious the crowd really don't care much about what he has to say.

The only other time cena got a reaction was when he used to do the "freestyles", but as said as soon as he became WWE champion that character disappeared and mr generic emerged.

Woulda been better had they not resorted to the now stale "show gets knocked out of the ring somehow before the end of the match". Thats been the routine as of late he either charges someone and goes over the rope or gets knocked off the apron.

I sometimes wonder in these creative meetings does nobody say "do you not thnk we've done that a bit too much?" Tag matches in WWE have been incredibly stale for years now due to them mainly following the same formula everyones seen 100 times before.

I used to be a big fan of WWE back in the day... when Austin, Rock and Brock were there...

Is it worth watching it again for an old school fan? A few friends tell me it's awful compared to how it used to be?

Me too. Been to WrestleManias (two of them, one of them 6th row seating, and posted my chair back to the UK to prove it), numerous UK events, and used to watch it religiously. Lost interest after WrestleMania XX. For some reason I tuned in to SmackDown last week just as the Rock was on. Was that ever a treat. :D

WWE? Gone PG? When the hell did that happen? If they keep that up they may as well just give everyone Sumo suits and let them bounce off each other. Non-PG has been fine for WWWF/WCW/WWF/WWE for 20+ years (including with audiences full of children), so why the change? (post-production editing for pre-watershed is fine).

As for Cena, he's tolerable, up to a point. But incessant Orton and Cena was a good reason why my last attempt at returning to watching WWE didn't last. I don't think I'll be watching much if it's all PG. Give me a well-sold TLC match any day. :)

Of course, if the Rock actually does guest RAW, I want to know about it please. I'd even dig out my Rock T-shirt for the occasion. :D

because he can be involved in some of the greatest matches ever? (HBKvtaker WM25 for example).

when is the rock due to host raw is it set?

Because he can wrestle - and the WWE needs people who can do that.

No not set, it was more of a hint than anything

But a big hint, and he talked about being the best host that RAW has ever seen, so it was hardly a passing comment.

It will happen, very soon I'd imagine, especially while he's not filming anything
