I just got mine today and its so noisey:(
I've read here that a few of you have gotten h50's with that annoying sort of buzzing sound coming from the pump and i just want to know did you have much hassle RMA'ing the unit?
Also did you send it back to Corsair or the retailer?

If you got it today then you should be able to return it to the retailer (assuming it was bought online) under distance selling regulations.

According to the law you can return it to the retailer (who is responsible for the product, besides what they may tell you) for what is deemed a reasonable amount of time for it to last without breaking. This is obviously not a problem in your case. Give OcUK a call tomorrow morning (assuming it's from there) or send a webnote for a slightly more delayed response.

Thanks for the replies guys.I just wanted to make sure i wasn't being to fussy about the noise it makes and to confirm it was ok to rma because of it.

Is this buzzing normal though ?
I installed mine, and it's like the noise you get if a fan is clicking after you drop the voltage. I have my HAF922 on the desk (currently doing build), all fans running at stock speeds, sidepanels off, and can here the H50 from where I sit, about 1 foot away. I'm sure if the case was on the ground with the sidepanels on it woulld not be noticeable.

So it it possible this buzzing is due to the normal operation of the pump ?

Also, does the pump make a noise for a few seconds (scratching noise) when you power pc up for the 1st time ? I assume this is the pump initialising/

Interested in knowing in case I have a dud also.

thanks

It is hard to explain the noise it makes. It sounds a bit like the sound you get if a wire is loose and it buzzes. Its deffo electrical imo and not caused by the water flow. Its constant too and makes no different noise when i boot up.
I can hear it over my apaches @ 1100rpm.

Maybe I have a dud too so :(

Tell me something, when you bootup is the pump loud for a few seconds, and then settles (besides the buzzing).

weird. wonder what's up with mine so. as i said everytime i turn on pc, it's like a scratching noise for 2 or 3 seconds, then normal. definitely coming from pump.

Hmm, maybe this is what is causing the strange buzzing sound I keep hearing, although that only ever seems to start when I load up google chrome.

Firefox is fine, but the instant chrome starts up, the electrical sounding buzz starts, and its damn annoying.

UPDATE:

I sent my unit back to the retailer and they returned it to me saying "Have tested the pump, it does not make any more noise then designed. Since the pump and block are one integrated unit it is how it is meant to be."
I wasn't happy so i contacted Corsair and they have approved another rma.

Now for the funny part,
I have just recieved another "unopened" H50 from the retailer. So they returned mine and sent me a new one:confused:
I'm struggling with the temptation at the moment to open it just to test the pump;) before i mail them to imform them of there mistake.

The H50 was never designed to be silent at all. Its a closed water cooler that has a very small basic pump in it. If you open your case you can hear it quite clearly. That is completely normal. ?

Glad you managed to get corsair to send you one though. Just do not expect miracles with regards to sound.

I understand that but i can hear mine over my seven 120mm's fans (when on medium rpm's) with the case closed. Its a Antec p182 so pretty good for masking sound.

Corsair didnt send me one it was the retailer i bought from sent me a 2nd one in error (i have two now).Corsair did aprove a RMA tho.

Why would you inform them of a mistake? They are never going to notice and your up 50 quid, say nothing!
