As title, am going to order a new soundcard, currently have audigy 2zs and wondered which out of the following to get?

Asus Xonar DS - £36.98
Asus Xonar DX - £59.98
Asus Xonar D1 - £56.99
Asus Xonar D2 - £83.98
Asus Xonar D2X - £79.99

It will be paired upto a creative Inspire 5.1 digital speaker system.

Any advice as to which is the better out of the above and why would be appreciated.

regards,

Matt

Well the D2 and D2X are the better cards, so either one of them, the X merely denotes it uses PCI-E rather than plain PCI so whichever better suits your mobo expansion options

Thanks for the replies guys.

Think I will go for the d2x, as the audigy I currently have is PCI and I always find I could do with using the slot it takes up.

Matt

DX and D1 are nearly as good as D2 and D2X. You're using digital speakers so there will be no practical difference. The DX and D1 use Dolby Digital Live for their digital connection. The D2 and D2X have both Dolby Digital and DTS Connect.

If you're not going to be using headphones (the higher models all have Dolby Headphone) and your speakers have a DTS reciever, I'd even recommend the DS. It will sound just as good as the others over a digital connection.

the pcie slot on my asus p5k deluxe board look really close to the gcard and ram, not sure its a good idea putting anything in there..

can anyone recommend if its worth just going down the pci route so i can have more space to play with?

i'll be plugging in analog with some aego 2.1s so what cards worth getting? id get the dx if they did pci!

There's really no advantage from having a PCI-E xonar, other than future proofing for when you eventually abandon your motherboard.

D1 (pci) is basically the same as the DX.
