Quick question about this 20-30min workout: The Spartan Run

So i've been wanting to attempt doing a Spartan Run for a while but have been a bit confused; it comes under the section "The best 20 - 30 min workouts" and here it is....

Spartan Run:

- Run 1 mile
- 100 pushups in as few sets as possible
- 100 crunches
- Run 1 mile
- 75 pushups in as few sets as possible
- 75 crunches
- Run 1 mile
- 50 pushups in as few sets as possible
- 50 crunches

This can't be done in 20 - 30 minutes can it? Seen as the standard army training run of 1.5miles is to be achieved in under 10mins 30 (for my age).
Or am i just looking at it wrong and it should be looked at as 3 different fitness levels so like:
if you're just starting out or not very fit go for
- Run 1 mile
- 50 pushups in as few sets as possible
- 50 crunches

and then eventually progress up to:
- Run 1 mile
- 100 pushups in as few sets as possible
- 100 crunches

Thanks,

Flare

think its the whole thing, easily doable (for some people) 3mile run can be done in under 20, 250 pushups in 5 minutes and the crunches quicker then 5 minutes

can't be a 20-30 min workout if you just running 1 mile, for those not so fit i guess they aim for 30 min rather than super fit people aiming for 20 (that would be pretty crazy speed to do that) Looks hard anyways

Yeah, having a bit more of a think about it i suppose it is doable. I just showed my friend who is a machine and he said the distance ran should be 1.5miles OR do more between each mile. damn people like him! :p

1.5 miles 3 times in 20 minutes would mean an average speed of 13.5 mph (22 kph), machine or not that is a very fast sustained speed considering a 4 minute mile requires an average speed of 15 mph. (In other words, I doubt he could actually do it).

I'm in no doubt!

Maybe he got a 'bit' ahead of himself.. :p

Still, I'm game enough to try it :D. Can't do until early next week but I'll give it a go.

Lets start a friendly SA book on how long it will take platypus to do the Half Hour Spartan Run.

I will take 52 minutes :p.

Id change the Crunches to Sit ups.

AFAIK Crunches are no good for you back at all =/

Is that because sit ups are often not done correctly or are they just bad for the back?

They put large amounts of pressure on your lower back, probably not a problem if you dont have any back problems but I imagine prolonged use could make existing conditions worse

I do the Military Sit ups as in this video

I was told by a Personal trainer and Lecture from the AIF (Australian Institute of Fitness) that crunches put huge amounts of pressure on your back
