More Royal Mail Strike on its way...

why do we need the obligation? get rid of it and let rm compete without it. of course, taxpayer support would go too, I am more that happy with that.
Honestly Dolph, I don't know why the USO remains, but as a customer, and I'm one too, I think it provides for a great service.

Yes, they could get rid of it, but that would really signal the start of the end. Do you honestly not enjoy having a great post office, I mean, you'd have to find something else to take for granted if that was taken away :p

Do you understand that we're trying to protect jobs from the hack and slash approach of royal mail management? would you rather have a 40 hour full time job or a five hour contract?

Right now I'd rather have the letters and packages that were supposed to be delivered to me 3 weeks ago :D

Obviously I'd prefer to have the 40 hour week but presumably RM want to make these changes for a good reason. eBay have asked for government intervention and ****** are considering finding an alternative to RM. I think public support for the strikes is rapidly disappearing. Aren't you worried that the strikes will do even more damage than RM's hacking and slashing?

I don't think we really do have a great post office, I think we have an outdated and inefficent post office.

there is need for reform, before the service kills itself by driving to irrelevence...

In all honesty, I couldn't care, it's not my job to care.

As long as you understand that 40 hour per week jobs are worth striking for to keep rather than have them replace by five hour weekly contracts then as far as I'm concerned you've been educated on the matter.

No, No, No, No. I knew I'd shoot myself in the foot replying to you. You know little or nothing about modern practices within RM Dolph. Go back and sidle up against Adam Crozier, there's a good boy.

Jeff, I haven't learnt a thing :D

Just out of interest, do you know any scabs?

Man this is ******* me off now.

I've just walked down to the sorting office for a 2nd time today, only to be told the package I missed (as I work 9-5 surprise surprise) still isn't back there yet (due to the backlog) for me to pick up. Where the hell is it? Sat in the back of some posties van while they're laying bets no doubt.

No Competitors!!

Let me get this right. You ordered a package that was sent to your home address when you knew you would be at work and you expected anything different to happen?

Then you march down to the sorting office and expect the parcel to be back there waiting for you?

Some people need to get a grip. If you are not going to be at home then have the parcel addressed to your work or pay for a service that will deliver it before you go to work. Its not rocket science.

How is it that Union leaders are always grade A morons? The RM has exhausted public patience through striking over the simplest matters, and both the workforce and management are equally culpable in the decline.

The RM has two main strategies to deal with financial trouble - sell well placed land assets (city centre sorting offices), and limit services/shed staff. It is almost gratifying that the most dispute ready sorting offices are the first to be cut. It is frustrating though the standard of service is slipping significantly. Local contracts for short shift workers are a step in the right direction for more timely and cost effective distribution of mail. With more out-of-town sorting offices, there is less option for postal workers to return to HQ (or the pub next to HQ as is most often observed the case).

It is quite possible to run a competitive Government postal service in competition with private delivery companies - many countries do. In a competitive labour market, it is not the responsibility of companies, or Government, to provide and secure jobs for all.

Is it wrong of me to want nothing more than my package delivered in a timely manner? It was despatched 9 days by RM 1st Class and still hasn't arrived yet!

Makes me wonder just what can be classed as 1st Class delivery these days because I can remember when 1st Class meant delivery within 2 days.

Anyone else feel like this is a flashback to british leyland days???

Also why should a unskilled labour force be able to force a pay rise above the national increase??

When will we get a independant mail service with a resonable grasp on reality?

If you don't like what's on offer, look for another avenue of employment. You know, like everyone else on the planet.

Reading your posts has made me cringe. You've managed to cement my preconceptions of those who like to strike - complete muppets.

Don't like your job? Quit. Can't get a better job with your skill-set? Then have yourself a little cry, pull your socks up and deal with the situation.

I won't judge because I don't work there, it could be a terrible job, i know the pay isn't exactly brilliant at around £6.50 an hour, not bad but not great. Don't know what working conditions are like these days either.

I don't buy much online and no one sends letters any more anyway.

I get £8.69 an hour working delivering mail for RM.

The amount of mail and packets is unreal, back breaking and getting worse all the time.

I get sick of the amount of people that say to me "oh you are late today" , no this is early for me it's not even 3pm.

The thought of a mail service with no contractual obligations and no minimum service requirements makes me laugh.

It would last all of 5 shameful minutes.
