Nvidia expects that real DirectX 11 titles will start showing up in six to twelve months and this was confirmed by Nvidia's Vice President Toni Tamassi and the Director of The Way It’s Meant To Be Played program Ashu Rege.

They still claim that all the game development will end up as DirectX 9 titles muscled up with some code to support DirectX 10 and 11, as games are primarily being developed for consoles and afterwards tweaked and polished to run well on PCs.

ATI expects Dirt 2 in December while Stalked DirectX 11 should be out in early 2010 and if all goes well for Nvidia they will have the DirectX 11 based Fermi out. Both Nvidia and ATI will push for more DirectX 11 games but we doubt that anyone will have any serious tessalation inside as you have to make all objects in low polygon and since consoles don’t have serious tessellation support, we don’t see this happening.

DirectX 11 should be able to show some serious post processing effects in games.

Battleforge has been patched to include one DirectX 11 feature which although not a new feature is more efficiently generated through the DirectX 11 API. I'd expect to see a few more patches for some games to include some DirectX 11 features over the next 6 months and new releases built on DirectX 11 in the next 6-12 months so i think Nvidia's prediction is fair. The question is when will DirectX9 be phased out? and in favour of what? (DX10, 10.1 or 11).

I think Nvidia are trying to damage limitation with ATi beating them to market with the next gen. This along with statements about cGPU technology replacing sliced bread and the poorly made Fermi mock up is attempting to placate fans and shareholders until Nvidia can show concrete evidence of their position with Fermi in a positive light.

I expect the biggest initial impact of DX11 (on win7 and Vista) is going to be the multithreaded DX3D. This could mean speedups on all hardware from DX10 through to DX11.

What else could they say really. If you last to launch then you're going to be spending the time before you launch saying that you don't need DX11 cards and when you do finally launch saying that you absolutely have to have DX11 cards. Pure FUD.

Well, the only other DX11 game I think of is Dirt 2, which has been delayed, so that it can better utilise DX11. And just like DX10, games will come out with DX9, DX10 and now DX11 options. There aren't a huge amount of games that ONLY run with DX10, so I doubt DX11 will be the same for a while to come.

DX11 isn't backwards compatible with DX9, only 10. They are two entirely separate entities so you can't not support DX9, when the massive majority of hardware is still dx9, DX9 will have to be supported in games for a couple years at least, after that, some game makers will(hopefully) say they have to stop dx9 at some point and as their new game " game x" is so good graphically, theres no point going DX9 aswell as theres no dx9 card powerful enough to run it on lowest settings.

Once the first company gives up on DX9, which will pee off a lot of people, every other company will jump on the bandwagon as making a game for both DX versions will be a pain in the ass.

That is ridiculous; most dev teams have been crying out for most of what is included in DX11 for a longtime. nvidia are just ****** because the rug has been pulled out from under them

Well Lord of the RIngs Online is what I play so nice to see its going to have DX11 however the Dev team hasnt announced it themselves!

Well, out of that list, I'm interested in:

Alien vs. Predator
Crysis 2
Dirt 2
F1 2010
Grid 2
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - Call of Pripyat

But, as most of those come out in Q1 2010, or have no release date, there is no major rush.

So, as long as the Nvidia DX11 cards are out end of the year/early next, all will be fine. They don't need to rush themselves really.

Having a DX11 card in time for Windows 7 is no major advantage to the consumer. As Dirt 2 has been delayed until about December. And the only other game is Battleforge.

Sorry, meant to write the first one to give up on dx9, will cause everyone else to jumpship and stop supporting both, but the first one to do so will take a lot of flak.

I told you didn't i (weeks ago), once they have a Dx11 card out they'll be shouting about it (instead of like now saying its not important), and they'll start pushing Dx11 games so we'll have them coming out of our ears (instead of what we have now, only about 2 mentioned), as they'll be going full steam ahead with Dx11 TWIMTBP, and what a surprise.

JUST LOL :D
