+1 Plus look at how MANY shops they have and staff.
Don't be daft - more shops = more sales. If a store isn't profitable, they close it - so having more shops is hardly going to damage them, is it?
What ****es me off isn't so much the prices, which people will at least have some vague notion about - it's the way they describe them.
"Quad core technology and 4gb of ram, perfect for multitasking"
all good so far
"...so you can save your photos of the grand-kids while sending an email to your friends!"
erm, no.
As far as I'm concerned, every single "normal" home user can get by absolutely fine with the second cheapest desktop/"normal" laptop in the store. The cheapest is just old crap, but the £350 desktop and £400 laptop will both run windows (vista, but also 7), msn, internet explorer and office with absolutely no worries.
Unless their kids are actually going to be doing some serious gaming, there's no point in the multitude higher-spec machines at high-street stores. That "basic" desktop and laptop, a "low budget" gaming rig and a full blown gaming rig, and that's all the purple place, or any of the rest of them, need to stock.
Charge what you want - if it's unreasonable the market won't stand it - but don't lie to the customers to make them think they need to pay more.
The fact is that my PC cost £500 all told, and will handle pretty much every 2+ year old game on high, and the newer titles well enough if I drop the quality slightly. If I, as a gamer; hobbyist and computer science student, can find this well more than adequate, why should anyone else need more?
Pay a little more, maybe, for the convenience of their profit margins and the "all-in-1 warranty", but no normal home (by which I exclude just about everyone on this site) user NEEDS more.
