Info needed on Toyo T1R and Nanking NS2

anyone used these tyres before?

i need to know what they are like in the wet and also how many miles i can expect to get out of them?

my commute to work is 60miles a day, mostly motorway, car is a bog standard 1998 Avensis, so i do not hoon around in it. so i need some tyres that will last a long a long time.

my current no names ones have lasted me 25k and got some life left in them but they are awful in the wet and seeing as winter is coming, id rather not risk driving with these tyres on! (especially with family in the car!)

T1R's are made of cheese. Typically last around 10-12k miles. Used them for a few years now as they're a good performing tyre and cheap, but for longevity look elsewhere.
 
Toyos T1R have a very soft sidewall. I have the same size fitted to my 306 gti-6 and after trying Bridgestone Potenza RE720 (not made anymore :( ) they make the car feel extremely sloppy. Steering response is poor and if you move the steering wheel slightly left then right it is like you are driving on a bowl of jelly, as said they wear out in no time. I've tried playing with tyre pressures but there is nothing that can be done to stiffen the flex up as much as i'd like to. For me the Potenza was a much better tyre. They do grip pretty well, especially in the wet however by the sound of it you want tyres that will last longer than the Toyos.

Personally I like to use tyres that are going to provide me with grip when required so I avoid budget tyres. What about goodyear NCT5s or similar? not sure how well they grip or on their price but they have lasted well on my parents Focus.
 
I agree with what you say Gixer.

I stuck Toyo's all round on my vRS a year or so ago and I have to say, they are the worst tyre I have ever used. Lack of grip, lots of understeer, the limit of grip is a lot less than my previous tyre.

Happily, I've just swapped the fronts out again for the Conti Sport Contact's 2. Which I used when I had the ST and the vRS and they are excellent.

For the OP, don't go for the Toyo's, as mentioned above you won't be able to get huge grip and long lasting tyres, it really is one or the other.
 
I think it depends on what other tyres you have tried and how you drive your car. What I have written is based on the experience I have had with Toyos over the Potenza.

There were Toyos on my car when I first got it and I thought they really were great. Now I have had a set of tyres with a really firm sidewall and limited flex fitted since going back to the Toyos they just dont inspire as much confidence. On track the Potenzas were really good. Agreed they could do with being stickier but for the road the RE720 was a great tyre. It's annoying they dont make them any more.

Tyres are very much a personal preference. It was the same when I had bikes. I didnt like some tyres that others really got on well with. Unfortunately the only way to find out what you like is to try them. For me the Toyos just dont cut it now. I'm not sure what I'm going to get next time round. I too have 195/55/15 and I want a stiff walled sticky tyre. There are some new Potenzas being released in the states but as of yet not here :(

Those with lower profile tyres will obviously not notice the flex as much. I'm not sure what the vRS has but I'm pretty sure they are lower profile than the OPs.
 
i just didnt think the performance offered by the toyos justified them wearing out in so few miles. not tried nankang. my vote goes on kumho ku31

even on my gti they lasted 22k, offer very reasuring grip and theyre quiet
 
how long ago was that?

i know people with them on a range of cars (172s, various mk2/3/4 GTIs, A3s, S3s, M3) and all have nothing but good to say

my second set did take a bit longer to "wear in" but a quick change front to back sorted that. before then i had had a couple "moments" on some b roads
 
I had The nangkang on the front of my previous car after I had a set of michelin pilot sports, whilst they werent quite as good they performed pretty well considering the price
 
The wet-grip on the T1R is excellent (although not quite as good as the Eagle F1) and I loved them on my MR2 - The softer sidewall didn't bother me in the slightest.

Their longevity was pretty poor though :(

If you try the T1Rs on your Honda you will have a different opinion.

I had them on my S2000 and, like many ITR drivers complain about, the sidewalls flex so much that high speed cornering loses any confidence you had, the rear wheels feel like they are floating around.

On the track if feels like you have jelly in each corner too. Bridgestones definately suit the Honda suspension setups

Sums up what I feel in the Gti-6 too. It is horrible at higher speeds. Sit on the motorway at 70-80 and move wheel left then right and the car just squirms with no positiveness what so ever. I have little confidence in the higher speed sweepers at the moment :(
 
i've got T1-R's on my fronts and have had them for 9k miles now and there's still a few mm left too.

How much of that is down to the tyres and how much of it is down to the car being a 10 year old Peugeot on 10 year old suspension components?
