Good old PC gamers shafted again!|

But even disregarding piracy for a sec there are still big differences in the price. If they can persuade 1m users worldwide to buy the console version on release day for £50 rather than wait a couple of weeks to buy it for £25 that's an extra £25m in revenue.

What utter utter crap. If theyre smart enough to pirate a pc game sucessfully its not as if they won't know where to get access to the console version files (same place more than likely).

Er...correct me if I'm wrong, but don't you need to flash your drive, install some stuff (maybe a chip?) and all this other crap which could potentially break your console in order to pirate games on consoles?

Quite a bit more difficult than just downloading a torrent file...

This too :).

So tell me where is the incentive for buying the retail version if the downloaded version provides everything the retail version does?

The overwhelming evidence suggests that most people buy the retail version. Piracy on a console is far more difficult and time consuming.

And modding a console can be easily done by looking up people who do it in ads in local papers, usually advertising it as making the console run "backups". Doesnt take sherlock holmes to go on the hunt for them and for £20 or therabouts and the cost of a few dual layer discs you can have any game you want. Ive also seen places online offering the same service, not as if its hard to get done.

Makes little difference, the fact is for every console download thats a sale lost since theres no reason for them to buy the retail version. On pc if they like the mp then theyre gonna have to buy the retail version. Thats obviously IF they like it so its not a definate either way. But that being said since the console version cost more every dload costs the dev more than the pc counterpart.

For god's sake, will you just admit you're wrong. Console games don't get pirated no where near as much as PC games - end of story!

Funny thing is im not wrong, im stating the fact that there less incentive for console users to buy the retail version than there is for pc users. Pc piracy is obviously more rampant due to the fact theres more pc gamers than console gamers, and obviously being on a pc for a few years you soon start to figure out where to get a hold of warez.

Settle down sonny :)

It's still a lot harder than PC, PC is entirely free and can be done by anyone with any PC, you don't need to faff around with burning anything or looking up people in local papers and paying them to mod it.

Harder yes but not as hard as people make it out to be. Plus the savings of buying a £50 game every time versus a stack of 25 dual layer discs each potentially being a game is obvious to see.

I think it's still a much smaller proportion though, personally I have never known anyone who has pirated on consoles and I used to run a gaming society at my uni.

According to valve for online gamers theres upwards of 260 million pc gamers.

and how many consoles are there? Also doubt that all those 260 million have a pc capable of running the new CoD game anyhow.

I bet the consoles outsell the pc by 10:1 on any given multiformat title.

I've actually lost track of the point (if any) that Gerard is trying to make.

It is fewer people doing it but they would do more damage compared to a similar number of pc gamers considering cost of games on console being higher, and the fact they don't need to buy a retail copy for mp.

Strangely because im responding to other posts and you seem to think every post i make is directed towards you, might want to re-read the thread to ease your confusion. :)

How can they have possibly collected that statistic?

Large proportion of them will play WoW and The Sims; they wouldn't even be able to run MW2 :).

Thers an article on eurogamer spannig three pages where they addressed this, apparently russia alone has 17 million online pc gamers

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/valve-why-the-pc-is-the-future-article?page=1

And what difference does it make if they could run mw2 or not? Id doubt its going to be that demanding since its still based on a now archaic quake 3 engine under tons of rewrites.

They sold 13M+ copies on consoles & not even 1M on PC so go figure where the focus is!(

If this stat is correct then it proves my point that it will probably sell 10 times more copies on the consoles than on the pc and at a higher price. By delaying the pc release, they are bound to catch some people who would have normally bought it on the pc but want it so badly that they will pay more to get it on a console.

afaik, the PS3 can't be modded/chipped whatever and it almost certainly voids your xbox warranty so most users won't play pirated console titles. Some obviously will but it will most likely be a smaller proportion of sales than those lost to pc piracy.
