**The Dragon Age Origins Thread **

Yea I'm not bothered about the free items either, good for a MMO where it gives you an advantage over other players but not so useful in a single player one.

All the main bits of DLC will be available to all the versions anyway.

Will pre-order normal version. Cannae be fussed with the free items stuff.

If it's anything like BG2, they'll be released in a future patch anyways. They'll just stick a new vendor in the adventurers mart ;)

It's £30.67 at Impulse and £29.95 at Direct2Drive.
No mention of the game at Steam.

You get some bonus items with the normal version if you pre-order. There is also a Deluxe Edition that is close to £40.

The impulse version is actually charged in dollars, so keep an eye on exchange rates and you might get a bit off it :)

Edit - probably not, as I don't imagine they'll charge your card until the 23rd or whenever it releases. You could order it now and end up paying slightly more or less.

If it's anything like BG2,

I really hope you and a lot of other people are not setting themselves up to be knocked down.

I seem to remember bioware saying it was as good as BG, so they may be shooting themselves in the foot. Of course a lot of people will see BG with rose tinted glasses, so its a massive statment for them to live up to. Ive just replayed BG and know its faults but its still a great game as is Icewind dale.

I hope we can all go into this game with clear minds and respect it as something new. Old Tenki (or what ever his name was) who is already 'throwing his toys out his pram' really is a typical reaction to games at the moment.

If Dragon Age is half as good as The Witcher or Drakensang or even BG ill be chuffed. I found nwn2's maps a tad too small to really get going, so hopefully they wont fall into that trap.

My post was pretty tongue in cheek, referencing the waste of money that is a CE, when the CE items end up in the main game anyway in future patches :/

I don't expect any game to be as good as BG/BG2. It truly is one of the greatest games made. Aside from a few game-breaking glitches (fake talk et al), it's wonderful.

I just hope it's better than NWN2.

Neverwinter Nights made it for me. I truly loved BG/BG2+ToB/SoA but there was just something so sublimely perfect about the way the story was told in NWN that I liked it just that little but more.

Of course, nothing really comes close to Lilarcor.

My educated guess from everything I've read/seen so far (barring those awful heavy metal blood & sex trailers) is it will be a much more Polished NWN2 with bigger areas and less bloat regards spells/skills. Also better party interactions ala BG. The D&D implementation in NWN2 felt rather clunky to say the least. BW are doing there own home-built D&D style rules so I think it will be rather streamlined.

The toolset is the real clincher for me though, hopefully it will be a bit more flexible/intuitive than NWN2 one as well. I just like messing around with these things and making my own modules, etc. A tinkerer til the day I die is me :p

Like some of you guys the only question left is where to get it from. Really annoyed the CE (with tin box/cloth map) ain't available here in the UK.

No mention of the game at Steam.

Just notice that as is the case with most games in Impulse, it's only available in North America even if it gives you the price in your local currency.

Bioware developer just announced earlier today on their official board that it is indeed coming to Steam, details to follow most likely next week.

Neverwinter Nights made it for me.

I got into the online aspect of nwn1, when nwn2 came on the scene a lot of people decided to go to nwn2 servers, they then found it to be a bit pap and after all that effort of building and learning the new tool set kinda put people of nwn in general and most never went back to nwn1. So a lot of the nwn community died during those early nwn2 months.

Nwn2 does do some things better, but a lot of the spell effects were, to put it plainly, crap. And the rogue stealth was just none existant - still not sure if they ever fixed that. But i did find a good server (baldurs gate one) which seems a bit small but still got me interest in the online aspect again - Druids have definatally got better..

Was really hoping DA would have online as well, but im doubtful that it will ever happen. So im also hoping Guild Wars 2 will kick butt.

Am I wrong are are there a couple updates, one free on release, one not? Theres the Stone Prisoner and Wardens Keep, or is Wardens keep the update and Stone prisoner is a certain pre-order only extra content?

At the moment does it look like the EA direct download is the best value if you want more than the bog standard edition with the DLC, the Stone prisoner and the most in game items?

Do we know the price UK users will have to pay for the DLC straight off, as if its £25 for the cheapest pre-order and best part of £10 for the DLC the £40 off EA doesn't seem to bad.

That's one way to look at it. Another way is £25 for 120+hours gameplay and then +£15 (using the EA price example) for maybe 10 hours? Obviously pulling the playtime for the DLC out of the air, could be 50 for all I know, but I doubt it :)

I'l most likely go for the £24.99 option. Then maybe wait for a compilation DLC pack next year, after I've had a play through or two of the original game.

Yeah, I don't want to pay £40 for a £25 game and a £4 expansion and one free area you can't buy that likely won't be that big(which I think the Stone prisoner is). But if its £10 for the DLC, then you're paying £5 more for some items and the extra content and I wouldn't really be bothered paying the extra £5.

20 minute game play video here for you to watch. You'll have to put up with a couple of annoying guys talking over it though.

Not really a big fan of the combat system they've gone for, though can understand why people like it since it offers more in a tactical sense. Still, there should be no excuse for having animations just stand there and swing through each other in this day and age. Especially since they had it right way back in KOTOR 1.
