Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising

Think this is too hard for me, I can't even get to the SAM sites on the first mission (I want to get the chopper achievement).

I've no idea what orders to issue or anything. Think I'm doing really well then my team just get killed.

Operation Flashpoint was never this hard :/

Same, do you need to do the SAM sites first, or before extraction?

Hold back button to see objectives, determine what you think would be best and stick to it. It's a sim, the moment you hesitate half way through an advance it's going to cost you as unlike COD, if you run away, chances are, they will chace until you kill them or be killed :)

Oh, one last thing, firefighting less than 100m away is considered close combat lol.

So just because you cant see the colour of their underwear, doesn't mean you can't shoot them, I try to engage around 300m and slowly advance every 6 rounds, sure it takes a lot of aiming and time, but it keeps my butt safe.

Kin ell, second mission is annoying managed to flank and go unnoticed, then the other team got wiped out, now i checkpointed just before the choppers come in and one gets shot down everytime, mission failed :*(

I have to destroy a radar but cant get there in time.

Played the first mission with mates and got to the 2nd mission sunburn which just owned all of us :) really good game though

Only managed to get one mp game tonight and that's because I created my own game. How was it? One guy kept team killing me and then somehow a player on the other team was invincible and camped in out base. Repeat him killing everyone while we all loaded clip after clip into and then I just turned it off.

what do you expect from a game with no cheat protection.

Just thought I’d post some very quick feedback on my feelings so far – only on mission 2, but have played the extra missions a bit:

Graphics
Nice enough, not groundbreaking, but I didn’t expect them to be, I would have hoped they were on par with Far Cry 2 though, but I don’t think they are, there seems to be an abundance of low res textures used, that only just lift its graphical quality over the original Flashpoint (imo of course).

Sound
Very good sound affects, everything I’ve heard so far sounds spot on, the sound really immerses you into the game and is a total credit I think.

Gameplay
Some bits are a but clumsy if I’m honest – for instance, your character is really slow at switching kit, not good in the heat of battle, even if it is realistic.

AI
Put simply – the Enemy AI is very good, verging on cunning, but the AI of your fire team is **** poor, really really bad and has pretty much destroyed the game to a degree for me.

In my short game progress but longish play time, the ‘friendly’ AI seems completely lacking in any desire for self preservation, send a squad to a nice solid brick wall for cover and only one will actually take up a good spot, another guy decides to stand away from the wall by 5 feet and the last guy goes beyond the wall and runs towards the enemy! Even commanding them as individuals, seems to have similar issues.

I’ve spent ages planning attacks, putting guys into great firing positions where they can see everything yet have adequate cover, only to issue an order to attack/suppress with free fire, and have no one loose off a single shot; leaving it up to me to take on the enemy with maybe one straggler being picked off by one of my crew.

For such an attempt at the ultimate combat simulator, the development dairies made me think I’d be playing, this is a huge **** up.

PS3 version btw.

Edit: An addendum to my bit on AI – just had another quick play on the second level and witnessed yet another brain fart by the fire team AI:

Two team mates get hit and are showing as yellow, so I retreat the whole team the other side of a hill, at least 4-500 meters away from the enemy shooting at us, using the fast move option to get them into safety to heal. I highlight each guy and tell them to heal and guess what; they both run back over the hill towards the enemy!

Shortly after this brilliant display of the AI prowess, one guy gets hit and is red, so I again retreat to safety and order a heal, only for both him and another guy to run back over the cover and sit in the line of fire healing!!!!

Suffice to say the game got switched off after this display.

Scort.

Not sure how I feel about this so far. Only been a couple of hours and will definitely give it mroe time, but it's just not quite what I was expecting.

The graphics are worse than I was expecting, but I can live with that... except spotting enemy can be blimmin hard.
But there have been other issues which bug me:
1) AI team member was walking sidways while shooting, put me smack between himself and enemy and shot me in face.
2) Vehicles. AI doesn't seem to be able to drive and even bumping lightly into wall makes a jeep bounce back in odd way.
3) You can't close doors? Know someone mentioned this some pages back but I thought it would be bug...
4) It would be nice to have had some kind of target practice level to get used to weapon handling. Games drops you in deep end a little too much.
5) No animation for healing is just lazy.

There are other things, but too tired to type more.

The original had so many flaws, but the gameplay made up for it, so far I think this is just about doing the same, I'm enjoying it.

If anyone wants to set up a 4 man co-op, throw me an invite.

Just took an hr and 10 to do the first mission, flew the chopper round the island, but when it came to land.... i crashed :@ blergh!

When you consider the length of time this game has been in development it's farcical.

If it had been released around the time of the 360 launch it would have been excusable. But when it's competing with games like GOW2 and BFBC that have pushed the graphical edge and playability, it's nowhere near up to par.

I don't know why people tolerate it when this is supposed to be "next-gen" gaming. OFP2 doesn't display anything different or groundbreaking.

Couple of other things that caught my attention.

On the first level there was an enemy sitting in a jeep. Hadn't looked at the compass to determine it was an enemy, so I was trying to climb into the jeep and couldn't. Looked at the guy sitting in it, and he looked just like one of my team.

Eventually decided to shoot him out of annoyance and turns out he was an enemy. Now his character modelling was so bad he didn't look chinese, plus he completely ignored us while we were running around him.

It's not the only time the characters not looking chinese was an issue. On the second mission, one of my team decided to run around a building and was now standing nxt to an enemy soldier, when I cam round the corner I couldn't tell one from the other, adn landed up getting shot.

Another problem with enemy AI - I was sitting in a building picking off enemy soldiers coming in. When done I moved around the wall to find an enemy soldier had just been sitting on the other side from me ignoring the gunfire. Of course, I couldn't identify him, so landed up getting killed.

I'm typically forgiving of games, but so far not so good with this one. I will give it more time today though, but if, after a few more hours I am still not getting on with it, I will likely trade it in this weekend.

I can see why this is not going down well in the PC games section. I guess having been a PC gamer most of my life til recently I am a little less forgiving than some in this section.

Everyone is looking at this game the wrong way... Prime example, post #833, just lol. comparing this to BF:BC??? Not even in the same genre. Thats an action shooter, this game, for the last time is a 'sim-shooter'...

So epople running along expecting it to be like bad company or COD are just going to hate this game, me personally, now I have got used to the game mechanics, I absolutely love it, sure it has a couple of bugs, mainly AI, but apart from that, seems pretty polished to me (not tried co-op or online yet).

I have this vision of people getting shot once in the head and dieing (which is more than possible on all difficulties) then putting the game down marking it as 'too hard' or 'unrealistic, I was 500m away'... Hmmmmm is all I have to say lol

I he was using them as a comparison with regards to a game being polished and feeling finished. I could be wrong though.

I'll take that one step further - this is the first and only game I have played since Batman:AA. And in comparison, that game rocked because it was so polished. This game, however, is not.

If you are enjoying it, that's great, but you have to accept that there are some out there who aren't and are disappointed after forking out money for it.

I still don't know which camp I fall into, but just spent another hour on it, and I am starting to think the AI is going to be a game breaker for me. I will persevere though.

Perhaps I need to give this a go on HArdcore Co-op...
