Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising

Yup that was what i said in my initial impressions of the game and i still stand by that. Some decent voice-over work and careful shepherding (not hand-holding mind!) would have worked wonders for first time players.

What baffles me is there is no option to choose your own equipment in singleplayer or multiplayer? Now this is a massive omission that really shouldn't have happened. Some will argue that some people will be stupid enough to try choose an MP5 for missions when clearly it will be useless but so what? It's supposed to be fairly unforgiving and even so a nudge in the general direction of what weaponry would be best suited by a briefing would solve that issue.

Agree 100%, was not impressed that no matter what you have no option over what weapons you will be using unless you find some out in the field...

The user reviews seem to be so mixed.

I think I'm just going to rent it, I would have chanced it and bought it if it weren't for so many games coming out.

good idea, everyone on the fence should do this.

you'll either love it or hate it.

personally i love it, although i can see all the bugs/glitches etc i still see at the core is really a great game

Well... might have to give up. Can't hold the ****ing beach head! Is it just me or is this a huge ramp in difficulty at this point.
******** I am annoyed!! :(
End up dealing with the first few waves no problem but always get swamped eventually

What difficulty you playing on? I was on normal and didn't have 'that' much of a problem with it.

Mission 5 extraction (last objective) makes mission 3 beach head look like play dough in terms!

Where your APC is dropped, get in it, drive forward then hook left then 10m more until the house on the corner (the one you hooked left round) is just behind you, get out, tell your team to enter, wait for them to get in, take the turret and just let your team observe and put up enemie possitions and just lay rounds into them, if you have at least 1 APC from the previous objective then you should be ok.

Don't get out, if the vehicle got blown up due to enemy then you let them get to close.

On united we stand I put a dude on the southen fixed gun position and then marched forward into the wood with the remaining team about 50 meters SE from the fixed gun. From there i could cover south and also move to help defend the east. The fixed gun dude ripped the enemy a new one and i only really helped him out when i had nothing east to shoot at.

I'll join, although my mic does not work :( Send and FR to ToneRsF if the lack of mic is not a problem.

EDIT: I've gone and got bro's mic

Everyone is looking at this game the wrong way... Prime example, post #833, just lol. comparing this to BF:BC??? Not even in the same genre. Thats an action shooter, this game, for the last time is a 'sim-shooter'...

So what? All sim-shooters have to have rubbish design and glitches by default do they?

I wasn't comparing the OFP2 with BFBC like-for-like. I'm simply saying BFBC was worthy of being called a next-gen game because it brought some entirely new to the arena, destructable environments. It's also a better game in pretty much every other respect, but I digress.

I love BF:BC as well (not long till rank 25 finally! like 1000 points left). Well, 1, next gen only really applies to something that was designed for 'next gen' consoles, aka, current. So OFP2 is next gen??? The engine is fantastic as far as I'm concerned. It renders a draw distance well over 10 times more than the frostbite engine can.

As for AI bugs, I have seen maybe 2 or 3 bugs so far, but not seen them occur more than once. Mostly just bad responsing from the AI and thats it.

Please elaborate on how BC is better in every way because I would love you to compare a sim shooter to a action shooter lol. Just making your self look like an idiot tbh with your fanboi bickering.

Like I said, I love BC as well and play it a lot. But would never even compare the 2 games as they are nothing alike.

Seriously annoyed... thought maybe this game would come alive in co-op for me... everyone else can join the game, but not me. Went back to test live connection and it doesn't give me any warnings about strict NAT types or anything.

Getting closer to trading in this game every time I touch it.

I get a failed connection every now and then.. It's a Live issue i think

There is a issue with live atm, not sure whether its this game or not but connecting to friends is near impossible atm :(

They are nothing alike? Yeah ok ..

Both have open world environments.
Both have military based contexts.
Both are first-person shooters.

But you still don't grasp that is NOT the point I am making. BFBC is worthy of being called next-gen because it raised the bar in terms of what it offered with destruction and some of the best sound around.

What makes OFP2 so great? As far as I can tell it's simply a rehash of the old game with some touched up weapons.

The underlying game fails, not least because the single player campaign is poorly thought out/designed. The game engine is rubbish when it comes to AI, and whatever you may say the graphics aren't that great, there are plenty of low-res textures around. Plus it's atrocious online (not counting co-op).
