Hi, i would like to have some help on overclocking my core i7 920 D0 to the fastest speed possible which am hoping will be 4ghz plus also these are the specs i have which i hope these will help you to assist me.

here are all the options i use at the moment which seems to be the best i got so far on my own. i have had it at 4 ghz but not stable so am asking you guys to help me

Hi ,

When i used 6GB memory and a 4ghz clock i found these settings worked for me.

CPU Voltage - 1.23v - 1.30 ( many require 1.27 - 1.3 for 4ghz )
QPI/VVT Voltage - 1.26 - 1.28 should be plenty for 6GB memory
PLL should be auto or 1.80 standard setting
Dram Voltage - 1.65v for anything over 1333mhz. Im sure nearly all ram requires this for 1600mhz.
Blck - 200x
Multi - 20
Turbo boost - Off
Memory speed - 1600
Uncore - 3200

This served me pretty well until i dropped my overclock to use 12GB memory.

Hi, thanks for the fast reply but i do have one small problem/qustion which i would like to know i can only set 1.64 or 1.66v for my dram and am sure its says 1.65v is the max isn't it as i heard a few people has killed there i7 from using volts like that is this true ? or is more of how hot your cpu is running as my runs very cool ;)

Hi ,

Yep many report the same with the gigabyte boards. You should be fine with 1.66v. I am sure that is what many who use them set it at. I personally use DFI currently and am able to set it exactly to 1.65v.

I am sure it wont be long before another gigabyte board users chimes in and confirms this for you.

best i got some far at 4 ghz is

CPU Voltage - 1.35v
QPI/VVT Voltage - 1.335v
PLL - 1.80v
Dram Voltage - 1.66v
Blck - 200x
Multi - 20
IOH Core - 1.2v
ICH Core -1.2v
Turbo boost - Off
Memory speed - 1600
Uncore - 3600

if i run linx i get bsod 124 which means more qpi/vtt volts i add some more or even less but it trips of quicker like in 6-8 secs then it locks up but as at these settings i can run prime95 fine and also if i run linx it takes around 40 secs to trip off.

has anyone else got any ideas on what else i can try to get this stable as i think for the speed of is slow (gflops) unlike my basic 3.2ghz which does around 40 gflops in linx.

Hi m8 ,

For me a D0 stepping chip 1.35v CPU core is too much. People are achieveing less on 4.2ghz and its a big jump is power requirements.
I would lower your CPU voltage to 1.3v max. I would then lower your QPI/VVT to 1.3v.

Put both IOH and ICH back to 1.1v you do not need this changed yet.

Also your uncore should be 3200 and not 3600 , probably reason its not stable. Always twice the mem speed clock.

Its intersting how there has been no mention of CPU load temps. Your probably not running enough vCore for your chip. Mine needs 1.45v to get to 4.2GHz, but runs cool at 75c max under load.

Hi,

i used these settings lock up after 5 secs of linx with bsod error 101 :/

CPU Voltage - 1.30v
QPI/VVT Voltage - 1.315v
PLL - 1.80v
Dram Voltage - 1.66v
Blck - 200x
Multi - 20
IOH Core - 1.1v
ICH Core -1.1v
Turbo boost - Off
Memory speed - 1600
Uncore - 3200
Load Line - On

i used the same settings this time with load line off, same problem again.... so i upped the cpu vcore slowly and in steps to to 1.34375v and still the same problem bsod 101

problems i have noticed more vcore means bsod 124
core vtt means just a lock up nothing else :S

i have found 1 guy only one guy with the same batch number as me would you please take a look at these post of what i posted over at evga and let me know of any more settings to try and i know the same number will speed thing up and help you understand my cpu abit more.

the guy is called goodey

part1
part2

i hope this helps

idle temp at stock speed i get 35c and underload with everything turned on all default the max temp is 55ish max load also i lucky to see 82C at 4.2 with turbo and ht on ONLY under prime underload

this is why am aiming for a stable 4 ghz to get it to a nice speed and then tweak/tighten up my ram speed

That seems an awful lot Typhoon. Is your chip a C0 step. ?
With that said 4.2ghz is another animal from 4ghz. Its where everything is stressed and you need full on power to accomplish it. Not all 920's will reach 4.2ghz stable.

I still believe you should not need to exceed 1.3-1.35v for 4ghz on a D0 stepping. Personally.

Ok ,

Maybe you have too much voltage. ? ? This could do the exact same thing as not enough.

Try 1.3 CPU v core
Try 1.28 vvt core
try the ram @ 1.64v

Everything else the same.

McT

these are the errors i had the the last 2 vcores settings i tryed

1.34375 = 9c bsod
1.35 = 101 bsod

am gonna try the settings you have suggested now also i have attached a picture of the cpuid so you can see that it is a D0

i tryed your settings above and the pc locks up mouse moves stil then the cuts off with no error and restarts and when i check event veiwer i find this

well since the last post i was able to get it to a successful overclock at the 4ghz aim like i wanted with no ht and no turbo, also here's a screen shot of the performance i got from 10 runs on linx.

idle temp before starting was 50 C
after first run it hit 81 C
and run 7 it got upto 87 C

let me know what you think of it :)

cegy, I think that it is probably your temps that are causing your crashes.

Looking at that LinX screen above, your load temps were 87c, this is with no HT which is way to high imo.

I don't understand why your temps are so high when you are using a Corsair H50 to cool your chip.

Other guys on here with that cooler have much lower temps at 4GHz than you do.

When HT is disabled your temps should be much lower than what yours are.

my h50 is running on the stock paste so would it make much difference to the temp or should i change the paste as i got some arctic silver 5 paste?

I read somwhere else there was batch with a protruding screw on the h50 when installed it was pushing away from the cpu not making 100% contact can check that if your going to reseat :):):)

Also have you got the h50 set as instruction or blowing out of the case STD fan ?

its sucking from the back and has 2 fans (push/pull) also what is the best way to tighen up the timing on my ram as its 1600 mhz @ 9-9-9-24 but i would like it at the same speed but better timing if that is possible i have already tired 8-8-8-24 but it seems to slow down the gflops on my cpu :S if you have any ideas please let me know :)

Your CPU Voltage is too high. Check your everest voltage monitor.
