Hey everyone,

Ive played Battlefield 2 online to death now on the PC and Im looking for something similar but just not battlefield 2, lol. Dont get me wrong BF2 is an awesome game but there must be other games out there that have the same elements of large play areas, vehicles, lots of players, explosions and guns lol.

There is the obvious COD Modern Warfare but I find the play areas a bit too small and frantic. I prefer big open maps where you can do all kinds of stuff.

Ive come up with these, are they any good and please suggest other games you recommend!

Arma?
Operation Flashpoint?

Cheers, M.

Agreed, really theres nothing else that compares. At the moment, your only choice is to stick with BF2 and wait for BF3 (which has been confirmed to be in development). The only real stop gap will be Battlefield: Bad Company 2, which is probably going to have similiar gameplay to BF2 but on a smaller scale.

Arma2 is too realistic, Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising has an inadequate multiplayer component and COD: Modern Warfare 2 is not a proper battlefield type game.

Frontlines Fuel of War
Quake Wars
Crysis Wars

All offer bf2-like gameplay with massive player numbers, vehicles and customisable weapon loadouts.

you could also check out the joint ops series by novalogic, but theyre looking rough around the edges now, to put it kindly.

Crysis Wars looks good, I was a big fan of the original and Warhead, Im installing Crysis Wars as we speak! :)

Any other games people can think of?

Just done digging on google and found you can download custom maps for COD4, there are some large maps out there too so I may be dabbling with these also.

Crysis Wars any good? Cant find reviews, is this a separate purchase on top of warhead?
Edit: I see it came out as an expansion to warhead. Its seems you can get crysis maximum edition which contains all three games.
Just wondering if its on steam now.

Try the game in my sig, mod for bf2 and try aix which is another one more arcadey. Arma is more strategy then arcade like bf2 is, pr is halfway

Insurgency might be up your street, excellent gameplay although no vehicles. You can download it from steam for free!

What about 2142? I personally enjoyed it a lot and last time I played - a few months ago - there were still a fair amount of players.

Providing you haven't played it then BF 2142 is the obvious choice as it was the next in the series and should still have its following

BF2142 is good right up to the point were you realise all the guns just feel like bb guns and don't seem to have any punch to them if you get my drift.

Personnally BF1942 was still by far the best fun out of the battlefield games. The maps were fantastic and planes where much slower and were great fun to dogfight in and there were no heat seeking or laser guided missles.

Now that I think about it, I'd go as far as saying that the last versions of Desert Combat were more fun than BF2 as they were more realistic, compared to BF2 which can feel arcadey at times.

Don't get me wrong though I still like BF2 a lot and play it with my friends quite a bit.

Quake Wars too, yes. Although, there aren't as many unlocks, compaired to BF. You can unlock weapons but only for that match you are in. They don't carry over.

You reminded me about Frontlines, I've not played it for ages so reinstalled and patched it again last night.

I'd forgotten what good fun it is, big maps, plenty of vehicles and weapons and quick action. I'd heartily recommend it, just remember to turn the folliage slider right down or you'll get glorious jerk-o-vision
