Toyota Celica's

I find the above-average looking ones quite rare. Have you driven one yet?

I have sat in one but want to drive one to see if I like the lower driving position - got a regualr Honda Civic hatchback atm.

No I havent even sat in one yet :(. I always feel a little cheeky turning up with no intention of buying. If i see one at a big/major dealer one day i may just go and sit in one and possibly ask for a test drive.

Steer clear of that, it's not a legit car. The GT versions go for 11k at least, it's got the wrong seats and wheels to be a GT too, it's more likely a t-sport with the front splitter/sideskirts/rear spoiler.

? That is what it is advertised as

Yeah, he does make it clear.

I went to a used dealer today to look at a Celica, who told me that test drives weren't allowed unless you were willing to buy it anyway i.e. you knew all about the car generally and were purely test driving to check everything seems good.

So, not going back there. Need another meet really with some a few generous Celica owners attending!

I am stunned to read some of these threads, a Toyota Celica might not be my perfect car either, but stop knocking someone elses wheels!
Looks a great car! I have had so many cars I have lost count and I can't remember many I didn't enjoy driving.
You are either a petrol head or you are not. Personally I don't get football however I don't go out of my way to insult everyone who enjoys it.

Yeah sorry I just looked at the pics, title and then the price lol, I edited my comment once I realised my muppetry :) If any of you guys are up near Bedford anytime you are more than welcome to come and take mine for a spin :)

Think you will find this is the internet and I can "insult" someone else wheels as I see fit.

I actually think the celica's posted in this thread do look nice. I just can't get past the fact toyota went soft with this gen. It could have and should have been so much more. Like the Fen sport one. Maybe I just like my older celica's too much.

I agree completely, whilst I love my 190 it should have been the soft 'GT' version and a turbo/supercharged version should have been a GT Four equivalent!

Toyota became worried about emissions and fuel consumption so they went in that direction and still continue to do so.

If what is being said about the new Toyota-Subaru Coupe is true then we won't be seeing a GT Four monster for a long time if ever again!

If the manufacturer recommends that the timing chains are changed every 80k then personally I would change it as it's just not worth the risk IMO

As for the lift - let the car fully warm up, find an empty-ish bit of road and put your foot down, hard. After about 6-6.5k rpm (IIRC) you should feel a real kick in the back of your neck and the car should experience another surge of acceleration. It's really noticeable

Can't be too specific as these arent my "area". But if the official service schedule says 80k, I'd want it to have been replaced at 80k regardless of how long they should last. If you buy that one, it would be the first job to do, so get a price for it before deciding to buy.

You'll feel the lift as a noticeable surge - take it for a drive and rag the nuts off it :D

As far as I can see the chain doesn't need replacing unless something goes wrong with it. Searching through Google and nobody seems to be capable of straight answer.

All his kit is standard spec in Japan so how about do your research before slating it eh :)

I don't need to do any research thank you..
i was mearly stating the facts as i see them..
Its my opinion thats the body kit looks poor regardless of whether its standard kit somewhere in the world..
No dis to Rackerz or Celicas in general .. it was my second choice in fact when i was searching for a new car

Had a 140 about 5 years ago, great fun, and not that slow, 127mph (8.5-60) mid range though you will be blown off by diesel focii!

I really think the 6 gen looks gross, with a hideous carina interior. 5th gen was the best but they're all rust heaps now....try and find the GT4 carlos sainz edtion...

2 miles from me! Would be silly not to go see it.

Anything in particular to watch out for?

I know timing chains should be changed at 80k but do last longer; how can I tell if it needs repalcing?

How can I tell that lift is working fine (assuming a test drive can be done)?

Having spoken to the guy,

He's the 3rd owner, last service was at 72K and that he's never tried the lift before! Could a problem arise out of not using it often?

He also mentioned that the alloys and tinted windows were as part of the sports pack, which I wasn't aware.

Not a problem. The guy I bought my car from didn't take it into lift when he drove it, I did. He'd had it for a year and a bit and no problems.

As a safety pre-caution though I'd replace the lift bolts! Only £1.50 :).

i dont think that you need to replace the lift bolts through inactivity.. they need replacing when used often due to them wearing down...and the early models (2002 i guess is early) may have the softer wearing bolts...so id get them checked.

but yea basic problems of not revving the engine could be bad oil flow? also the ecu might put the car into a more economical setting.

id test drive it, get it fully warmed up, then boot it into the 8k rpm region... if you didnt feel a distinct increase in accelleration after 6k rpm, something is amiss.
