Which W7 Edition do you buy?

Brought (well pre ordered) Pro for £78. Wasn't going to bother with 7 till next year but saw the cheap price and thought i'll grab that. Will install it when i get it on the 22nd. :D

I'm thinking of making the jump to W7 for my main PC. Can anyone advise me as to whether I would be better going for the 64bit version rather than the 32bit, going by my system spec ( in sig ) ?.

What are the pro's/con's with the 32/64 bit situation?.

Apologies if this question has been asked before.

i wont go into detail as in the windows forum there has been many a thread if you have a quick search dude.

however i will say, looking at your spec there is no logical reason why you should not make the move to 64 bit. for a start you will get the full benefit of your 4gb ram which on 32 bit you wont.

3 x Home Premium @ £45 each, I don't need the features in Pro or Ultimate.

Currently running RTM Home Premium, hopefully I'll be able to just activate it.

Did you test Win 7 with the RC to find out?

I find Win 7 streets faster than Vista personally as its not as resource hungry, seems a general consensus !

Is it really faster or is it simply because it's a clean install. Look HERE and then come back in six months or so and tell us honestly if its still streets ahead. I didn't find it pavement width faster never mind streets.

i'm a big vista fan, but win7 is faster in from boot times, logons, file transfer and application loading, i have the full release of win7 as gold partner at work and prior to that i had a clean install of vista because i wiped the win7 beta.... its faster trust me

Sorry but that wasn't/isn't my experience. I found Vista/W7 to be just about the same when I ran both the beta and RC versions, and on my Laptop which isn't very well spec'd but runs Vista I found the CPU load higher with W7 which many reviews have noted also. I think like many other applications that it depends very much on what hardware you have. I run Acronis TI which I think is great, TI 2009 runs flawlessly for me and yet I know that is not the case for everyone.

Pre-order Pro for the new PC

Also have to disagree with Faustus - been using Win 7 since ver 7068 and has about 80 apps running from it including a few photo libraries and music libraries of a couple of 100 Mb each and Win 7 is definitely way faster and better at coping than vista ever was

I'm starting to think, is it worth me buying Windows 7 Ultimate. If I want, I can always upgrade from Home Premium to Ultimate can't I?

I guess, I just took Ultimate as I had Vista Ultimate, but is the extra £100 really worth it? Might have to change my pre-order with the jungle to Home Premium.

Edit: Cancelled my Ultimate pre-order for now. I don't need it. Ordered Home Premium. Will be building my girlfriend a PC next year, so will buy myself Ultimate then if I feel I need it then.

Went for pro for remote desktop on main PC and home for my laptop which the woman uses, ultimate seemed pointless, couldn't find any reason to opt for it.

I have ordered:

1 x Pro for my desktop
1 x Home Premium for my netbook

My desktop is currently still running the RC as I ahve not yet had time to upgrade it to RTM

My netbook is running Home Premium RTM now so just needs activating on the 22nd!

I did have Ultimate x64 on pre-order, but cancelled that when I saw the student Pro version for £30.

So I now have Win7 Pro Upgrade x64 on order for £30. Am on Vista Ultimate x64 currently, but the price of the student offer was attractive enough to switch to Pro.
