Evening ladies and gents,

I'm after some recommendations of any decent places in the Birmingham area to eat. Doesn't have to be in Brum itself (in fact, I'd prefer if it wasn't) and it doesn't matter if it's a pub or restaurant. Any food, bar sea food, goes.

Ta in advance.

The Farm - this place is a pub, but a very very very nice one indeed. The food is fantastic to say the least. Quite a few celebs often pop in. Expect to see birmingham city footballers in there or the odd actress, and always andy gray drunk. Make sure you walk into the main building, not the smaller one on your right.

Fleur de lys - Another pub style place, specialising in a range of fantastic pies. Again top top food and a nice environment out in the countryside.

The living room - Broad street, Brum city centre. A quite fancy restaurant, make sure you book in advance, another place where the food has simply been perfect in everyway. Couldn't fault the place.

without putting a dampner on things, i'm a building surveyor and would never eat in any pub on broad street or the bull ring and definitely not china town, i've seen the rat infestations in the kitchens!
the miller & carter on the wolverhampton road is nice.

miller n carter is sutton coldfield gets my vote as well as the '**** inn' in wishaw.

few of the chain restaurants in the mailbox are ok for cheap average food though

Everyone I've spoken to recommends the miller and carter, but I've still never managed to get down there myself even though its only 10mins away :(

Cheers fellas, some good places there :). We're going to give Di Napoli a try tomorrow as Italian food is just awesome :D.

Just so you know, from the outside it doesn't look like much. No doubt you will get there and feel underwhelmed, but I thought it was fantastic. I had the Carbonarra.

San Carlos is regarded by some as one of the best italian restaurants in the country, one caveat, whilst the food is excellent the service can be a bit "italian" (i.e. they're in no rush, so expect a longish wait to get the bill, take order etc.).

Chez Jules is OK for french stuff and then you've got your usual chains at Brindley Place and the Mailbox.

The Farm is my local, good food nice pub.

Agree on Fleur de Lys, been a while since I've been but the pies are good.

Living room, overpriced for what it is imo, been twice now and wouldn't go back in a hurry although the live music is usually quite good.

Some of my favourites:

Purnells, Birmingham
Simpsons, Edgbaston
Opus, Birmingham
Bank, Birmingham

Pubs:

Crabmill, Preston Baggot
Orange Tree, Knowle
The Boot, Lapworth
Punchbowl, Lapworth
Bell Inn, Tanworth-In-Arden

I've got loads more recommendations, I think we should have an OcUK good food guide!
