HD Onboard Audio VS Soundcards

High quality 2.1 or low quality 5.1 ?

The new i5 boards have 9.1. I have posted for best pseakers for this but with no replies. Now you have me wondering if a seperate card would be better?

New card would come later, ant suggestions for sub £50 or sub £100 speakers.

The 10-channel STAC9271/72/73/74 codecs are targeted at high-end and entertainment PCs and provide 7.1-channel audio with simultaneous real-time communication (RTCSee real time clock.
..... Click the link for more information.) and quad digital microphone interfaces for significantly higher quality voice input supporting applications like VoIP and speech recognition. The SigmaTel STAC9227/28/29/30 codecs are eight-channel HD audio codecs targeted at desktop and notebook PCs providing support for 7.1-channel audio or 5.1-channel audio with simultaneous RTC, as well as quad digital microphone interfaces. Both the STAC9227/28/29/30 and the STAC9271/72/73/74 provide three stereo ADCs with 24-bit resolution, integrated headphoneSee headphones.

You could be right, I don't know much about it, but this seems to say 7.1. I wonder if the 10 channel is 7.1 plus software enhancement? Not a lot of info around . I will look into it more and try and find a diagrame.

Can anyone spread more light on this.
