Recommend me an A4 photo printer

I have an Epson R300. Not unhappy with the results, but I dont print regularly enough and I end up doing the head cleaning stuff every time.

Are newer printers easier to maintain? Any new features on newer printers out there that prevent nozzle clogging?

Do you use official inks or compatibles. I suspect that would be more of a problem . . . .

If you use an HP you won't get the nozzle problem, because the nozzles are on the cartridges and are "self cleaning". The only problem is that (in my personal and fairly limited experience) HP colours aren't anywhere near as good as the Epson ones...

i have the same printer , epson R300 and its the most fantastic thing ever

what is it about the results you dont like ?

i (and another mate of mine that has one) get the most amazing results from it

even with non original inks

I said I am not unhappy with the results. i.e. I am happy

I always use original inks.

What I am unhappy with is the clogged nozzles every time I dont print for a month or more.

...Switch to a Canon. Never had to 'clean' mine regardless of how long between prints.

Canon here too.

Only problem I've experienced with the 'cheap' A4 printers are that my ip5300 has started 'scraping' the paper about 2cm from the bottom of a page, giving a strip of dulled out colour that's especially noticeable on some photos, regardless of paper or settings.

A mate of mine (he has the ip4600 I think - at least the ip4500) has started experiencing similar problems.

Can't complain about the quality of the prints (on Ilford Gallerie Smooth Pearl or Glossy Pearl paper) and no issues with blocked heads, and I print quite a distance apart.
