batman Arkham runs on Maximum Physx, constant 60fps
and the cloth effects do actually look cool so does the smoke, even though its a kind of rip off as im sure all GPUS could do that onboard :D

but still nice to know i wont be slowed down by PHYSX games :D

25xxxk without physx, 29xxxk with physx

and to get the 8800 working with box ati cards you have to use a driver hack.
currently working with the latest WHQL`s aswell :D

Hi ViRuS,

Quick question. I currently have an 8800gts in my rig and going to upgrade to a 5850 soon. My PSU only has two 6 pin PCI-E connectors. If I run the 8800gts for physx only (Batman AA) does it still need the extra power from a single PCI-E connector or can it draw enough power from a PCIx1 slot?

It will probably still need the lead as even if its not using it, it will be expecting it (my gtx260 complained)

However, most 5850 come with 2 pci-e 6 pin molex convertors.

Oh and here's my Vantage scores with one lowly 5850 and a lowly GTX260 216SP for physx ;)

My motherboard wont bootup without the extra 8800GTS 6pin pin plugged in otherwize i get a load whine sound coming from the GTS card.

Use the ati hack for batman and see if it is faster without the gts

Its not.
Without the GTS and maximum physx enabled its mostly 30s 40s 50s , with GTS 60fps constantly.

also without the GTS some of the physx doesnt work on the cpu like cloth ect ect.

Cheers. My PSU is only 500W so looks like I will need a new one to power both cards. Might as well future proof and get something with enough juice for 5850 CF plus the 8800 ;)

So how long til you're saving up ready for when Eyefinity surround gaming is available on crossfire, so you can play in 5760x1200 ultra widescreen with peripheral vision? :D

Haha, make sure you get some reviews and pictures ready when it appears, I think they're working on bezel management and a few other bits before crossfire support unfortunately, but Im sure it'll be sooner rather than later! :D

Hi Virus !
Just wanted to ask could you use any nvidia card this way and did you need to do much configuration ?...apart from the driver hack :o
Would like to know if theres much difference in crysis/warhead as it has a fair bit of physics going on..

cheers

I dont think crysis warhead supports gpu accelerated physX its all done on the CPU me thinks

as for any card yes, any nvidia card will work but your offloading to physx only so you dont need a super duper fast nvidia card for dedicated physX support at its highest settings ect. ect.

also to enable the hack its basicly easy as pie though you do need win7 as vista or winxp doesnt support mix and matching cards as the drivers on others os`s wont install.
once you install the card then the drivers then reboot into safe mode, run the hack it will patch 2 files, reboot into windows and go to your display right click on your main display and extent the desktop onto the phantom Nvidia display then press apply and thats it. ;)

then you can access nvidias control pannel and enabled physX support. :D
