Nazi Germany colour photos (pic dump)

20 is amazing all those people going to a rally to support their murderous leader and thinking it was a good idea and better them.

Crazy what people can do in harsh times.

yeah, i cant imagine people doing things like that in this day and age....

oh wait...

Some amazing photos thanks.

If I could go back to one event in history, I would learn German properly and go to a Nuremburg rally.

I hasten to add this isn't because I'm any sort of Neo-Nazi! :p

I'd go there and wipe out the Nazi party with a machine gun or bomb :D

Love 1930's and 40's history, mainly because i'd like to know how I would have handled it. And why did the Germans have such damn cool uniforms?

Very interesting photographs; and I agree, the colour certainly gives you a different perspective on things, making things look more "real".

Any ideas anyone?

In a nutshell, the original swastika was and still is a Hindu religious symbol, among other religions. We even have it in our house. I don't know the details as to why but the nazis started using it but at an angle.

So obviously, to an ignorant public, a Hindu/buddhist who might be displaying the sign on an item of clothing, chain, ring, tatoo, etc, could easily be misconstrued as a nazi supporter and get beaten up :(

As a kid I used to think olden times were black and white... till I asked my mum what life was like in black and white. Damn you TV!

Anyway, great photos of a not so great time. The bad/good thing about them is that everything appears so normal in colour. Black and white photos have dramatic effect for most of us, we've onky ever seen black and white images of that era and associate them with horrible times. Seeing images in colour feel quite odd actually.

ya i have been watching WW2 in HD and Colour and also the WW2 Apocolypse in some random channels on cable... very interesting. to see the reich in full colour is so strange. it makes it all look so real, maybe even too fantastical to be real.

some of the footage (of random ww2 things) makes the whole thing look fake because after seeing it all in black and white for so long, its difficult for my brain to reconcile it in true colour..

fascinating time in history.

Makes you wonder about the kind of influence Hitler had to be able to bring together that many people for such a cause. Many of them are just normal people like you and I, they're not all wicked evil murderers. They're just fighting for what they've been told to believe in, for their heritage. I guess patriotism and religion are often the fuels for war, but this really makes you appreciate just how easily people can be led by such things.

You fight with your life due to where you were born. It sounds kind of silly when you sit back and reflect on it. You're risking your life for a piece of land, for a government organisation that sees you as a figure, a number or a monetary sum. You can claim to be fighting for freedom, oppression or tyranny but the fact is we live on an entire planet filled with life, with new horizons and with different cultures. Where you're from is always important in life, but where you're going really shapes your existence. You're not going anywhere if you die fighting for a 'claimed' label on a piece of land.
