I am trying to buy a cheap car to use as a run around and occasional longer trips. I want to spend as little as possible (postgrad student) but obviously need something that works.

I found this and think that it looks like a good buy http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230386125544&_trksid=p2759.l1259 , going to go and see it hopefully once I have the sellers details.

Does it appear to be a good buy?

Not bothered about interior it is a 14 year old car after all! More attracted to it as it sounds like it has been well looked after, not driven hard by some chav etc.

A caravan toilet is in her selling history so maybe it was used to pull a caravan at some point.. problem?

I'd be worried about the state of the clutch and things on a small car like that if it was towing something big like a caravan.

Find out for sure - a small trailer for tip runs is one thing, a caravan is another

Get ready for the flattest dashboard in history. Otherwise it's not going to be... bad?

haha.. well the insurance is low .. it's hard to know what to go for I would prefer a golf/focus/audi a3 but they are more expensive and the insurance is higher

a friend of my GF had one of those. a real know-nothing when it comes to cars. had it for 3 years charging back and forth to uni. didnt clean it once. i think it needed tyres for an MOT, the rest of the time he drove it like he hated it and it didnt complain at all. story has it that it was sold to a slovak girl who took it back home in slovakia

from his experience i got the opinion those cars are real troopers

i just cant help but think it would kill it though, especially the brakes, theyd only be tiny 239mm things, theyd warp to buggery in no time.

who knows
