JSA outweighs working part time...

I'll get flammed for this but I don't blame you.

I bet if most of the people here were offered two jobs, one paying more than the other and being considerably easier, there would be no hesitation over which one to take.

I will say I don't think it's right that you could earn more by doing nothing. The system really does need to be changed.

Personally, I'd keep looking until you found something which paid more.

Would you qualify for income support too?

Less than 16 hrs a week, 16 to 59 yrs old, low income - sounds about right?

this is good advice^^

ignore the people being overly harsh in this thread, I know where you're coming from, and it really does suck.

is cycling a possibility? you may be able to get a lift to/from work with another person that you work with, for the price of your bus fare etc...

best of luck mate :)

If money is an issue for the OP I would do what you have said. However if money was not an issue and I was living with parents I would take the job to improve my prospects of finding a better job.

I fully agree with your first comment.

JSA isnt the problem the rest of the system is, if people opt to get jsa then theres something wrong with the work system ie companies not paying well is the issue, tax is another issue, social housing is another.
For people to opt living below the poverty line says a lot about the way this capitalist system is running. opportunity cost as economists would say.

Claim as much JSA as you want, I'd rather my taxes go to helping such as you than be spent on bombing some civilians in Afghanistan/Iraq.

cycling is a very easy possibility i used to go to about the same place and back on my push bike to collage for a long while but the only thing im worried about is the employer not taking kindly to it and thinking im gonna be sweaty and covered in salt all the time. what shall i say when im asked about how im gonna get to/from there ?

JSA is only supplied for a period of time though isn't it?

Contribution based JSA is for 6 months only (so long as you have made enough NI contributions). Income based JSA is until you get a job but is means tested.

Just say that "you have your own transport".
