hi every one, I have an xfx 4890 and wonted to know if I should keep it and buy a 2nd one so I can set them up in crossfire, or should I sell it and get the new xfx 5870/gtx285?

I also wont to know if the EVGA GTX 285 is better buy for buck then the xfx5870?

cos if it costs about the same then I may as well get the gtx285 if its better then the 5870, however that being said, if the 5870 is better then the gtx285 then I'm going to stick with ati.

I have always had ati graphics cards is it time to move on?

From what I have experienced so far.

The 285 is faster than the 4890 in some games and the others it is not. 5870 is faster than both but my 5870 is no match for crossfired 4890's.

It will be interesting to see how driver maturity will affect the 5870 performance whether it increases it or decreases it.

But I suppose if I had a strict 250-300 budget and wanted a gfx setup that would last me a year or two then I suppose I would go crossfire 4890.

OMG OP did you mean either ? If so congrats that's the first time I've ever seen it spelled "ever"

xfire 4890s will be the fastest option unless xfire 5850/5870 is an option. The 5870 pwns the 285.

thank you for the suggestions, I'm going to go with two 4890's for the time-being, and see what gets released over the next year.

time to change psu, I have a corsair tx 650w psu, what wattage should I go for 750 to run two 4890's, or higher?

edit

I have only two pci-e sockets, so I can't add more gpu's

750watt should be more than enough. 650watt is probably enough unless the rest of your machine is a monster.

muppetkiller: A 4850 is about 50% as fast as a 5850. Given that the average Xfire gain is 50-60% your current setup is between 75-80% as fast as a 5850.
