Car swap - worth doing? 620ti for 620 Diesel

Good evening motors!

I have been offered a straight swap for my 620ti, in the form of a 620 diesel as the fuel consumption in these hard times is truly crippling - much worse than I'd ever imagined tbh :(

It's a 1998, done 130k and is the same engine as was in my old 400 diesel that I got to 130bhp, so it won't be too slow.

New oil, filters, cambelt, gaiters etc, seems a good deal.

I do about 25k a year, so would make a big difference to fuel costs - the diesel is roughly twice as good on fuel as the 620ti.

Thoughts?
 
I would but ONLY if the fuel costs were really bending you over, otherwise I would take the might turbo t series any day over some oil burner!

This was mentioned several times in one of your pre-purchase threads!

The 600 is about 100kg heavier than the 400 IIRC, it's certainly not going to be quick comming from a petrol turbo. Only you can decide if the fuel economy is worth the drop in performance.
 
I pay about £300-£350 a month in fuel, then another £150 in insurance, plus every month something new breaks :p

I earn £1150 take home per month, so it's a damn big chunk :(
 
£150 on insurance!!!! do you live in a ghetto?!

my insurance on a rover 220 coupe turbo which is group 17 same as the 620 is £48 a month! (slightly less on a 620) I dont have one yet just a quote I ran the other day as im looking to get one

I doubt you're going to see anything like 60mpg in a car the size of the 600

After all the work you've put into yours, I'd just live with it and drive it a bit more carefully!

You'd probably be better off in a luke warm hatch with the advantage of being light and potentialy much cheaper to run and insure. Then use the difference you would have spent on fuel and insurance to go into a savngs pot for a car in the future.

You do earn exactly the same as me though, although my insurance (if I hadn't paid in full) would have been £116 a month, the car on finance was £210 a month and fuel was ~£100 a month. That plus I pay 50/50 for a mortgage (£205 a month cost to me) and more or less 50/50 the rest of the living costs. Tight, but still affordable.

I did take a hint to myself anf took advantage of getting rid of the CTR though and I see you're more or less in the same situation. I think you can do better than a heavy diesel Rover though mate :)

Actually, economy seems quite reasonable for the car. 25k pa = ~2080 miles per month. £350 @ 1.05p/litre = 73.4 gallons. 2080/73.4 = 28.3 mpg. No way are you going to double that from a 620 SDi.
 
Because I'm 20, and anything is murder - must be my proximity to Liverpool :p

Still, lots to think about, in the end it's a question of if it's enough of my income to have an impact on other aspects of my life.

I still stand by my previous comments that the Ti is an absolutely fantastic car, just a little tempermental when it wants to be. :)
 
I missed that part, how can you be possible spending the best part of 2 thousand pounds a year on insurance!?
 
its not your age because Im 20 and insurance on a 620 ti is less than 50 a month must be your location! plus you have replaced so much on the ti there isnt much more to go wrong! I say keep it
 
What's to say the derv wont be temperamental too?

In terms of whether the swap is worth it, what age and mileage is your ti again? Doesnt sound like a great deal.

Get yourself something cheaper to insure and more reliable *cough*fiesta*cough* and you'll send those costs way down
