on old huge diesel rover, I can think of cheaper cars to run.

In fact, for less than the cost of a years insurance you could pick up a 306td or xantia td... They're good for 50mpg.

A 306TD is hardly suitable for 25k a year, its a small hatch. A Xantia, whilst a good suggestion, is no different size and class wise to the Rover 600.
