my grandparents recently bought a massive rug to put in the living room, the problem is that it keeps getting bumps making it easy to trip on, i can see its a accident waiting to happen so i want some way to fasten it in place without damaging the carpet underneath

i tried those sticky double sided patches but it didnt seem to last 5 mins as i think they are made to hold a rug on a wooden floor

all i can seem to find are these

has anyone had any experience with them or know of a alternative?

thanks for the reply mate but in that link the one for carpets is what i tried before :(

I put a rug on top of the carpet. So far nobody has had an acident. Should I worry?

not really ;) im just worried because of their age, a fall to them is a lot worse and they tend to trip on the smallest of things

ill give it another try :) maybe the kind i got before was cheap or something :p

thanks for the replies, ill give those spikes a go too as they are only around a tenner

I've used something called GripNet Tape to stick a rug to carpet before. It's really sticky, much better than double sided tape.

105 spikes!!!!

It must take forever to injection mould those, that's the bargain of the century, but it right now!!!

OT: It'll probably work.

it'll also increase the height of the rug which makes a trip more likely.

My part time job is Elderly Day Carer and trust me when I say, you're more likely to have your grandparents trip over the rug when the edges crease up or lift off than actually slipping over because of the slip of 2 materials.

Most of the elderly who have a fall are caused by such trips as they like to have rugs in their living room / door entrances. Not heard of sliding rugs over carpets (or even the more likely event of rug over bare wooden floor)

lol i wish they would throw it away ;) its not the slipping of the rug im worried about, its the edges as Mr Jones mentioned, the problem is that the rug is so big that one of the armchairs has to go on the top of it, i think this is causing the movement and making the edges lift

Bring them to the local geriatric ward, 8/10 beds are filled with elderly with broken hips, knee, arm or knocked on face/head due to fall. Of which, I'd confidently say are tripped over home furnishing. Best to convince them to be practical and perhaps have this rug passed on to a relative or something :)

BTW, after working with elderlies for over 4 years part time, it's morbid to say this, but most elderlies goes from fit, healthy and strong to weak/frail and quickly deteriorates before dying of secondary causes. It all starts from 1 bad fall.

But of course I'm not trying to ask you to bubble wrap them golden oldie... just little things like that can save a lot of problems further down the line.
