How to get a cork out of a bottle?

Hi,

I have a nice bottle I want to use for olive oil. unfortunately, there is a piece of cork stuck inside it.

Is there anything I can do to get it out/ dissolve the cork?

I had the same problem recently. There is probably an easier way but I just filled the bottle with sand (stopping every now and again to swirl it in order to keep the cork on top) and then when it was near full, stuck a knife in (the sand kept the cork in place so I could stick the knife into it deep enough) and then I just pulled it out.

edit: Above would be easier... except I didn't have a skewer.

sodium hydroxide, aka drainer unblocker, will probably dissolve it up.
 
Insert the bottom half of a carrier bag into the bottle.

Tip it upside down so the cork sits next to the bag in the neck.

Inflate the bag inside the bottle.

Pull, hard. The bag and cork will come out together.

Get a piece of string (fairly thick). Put the bottle down so the cork is on the bottom of the bottle inside. Put one end of the string into the bottle keeping a little outside to get hold of. Quickly turn the bottle upside down. The cork should stop at the neck of the bottle trapping the string between the cork and the bottle. Pull gently and the cork should be pulled into the neck. It will be a tight fit.

At this point you are into pub trick territory. "How can I pick up this bottle using just a cork and a bit of string without making any knots"

Be careful of injurying yourself if the glass breaks - but pull (very) hard on the string and the cork should be pulle out. At least it will wedge in tightly enough to get a cork screw on it.
