Need help guys

I've had my old work horse PC now for over 7 years, and I really need the upgrade.
From looking on these forums over the last few months, I set my heart on getting a system with the AMD Phenom II X3 720 Black Edition chip,
As there was so many people raving about it on here & giving it really good reviews.
So I have saved up some spare cash (700 quid)

Then I saw this

It was an easy option, as I have never built a computer before.

Then I came back to the forums, & now nobody seems to mention the chip above, the one that had the grand reviews that impressed me.
So here lies the dilema. And here is my situation.

I have never built a PC before, but I am willing to give it a try, I'm technical minded, so I can't see it being to hard.
I'll be using the system for Producing Music/videos, surfing net & encoding. I dont play PC games.
I have two monitors & sound card already, & I like XP

What chip is the must have now.?

Can somebody spec me a computer for around 700 pounds.?

Hi there and welcome
First off if you have a read of this thread, it has some info on the current hardware choices and some example builds, I'll see about doing a custom build for you in the mean time

Edit: And here it is

gone for a P55 i7 system as this best suits your needs, the CPU has 4 physical cores and hyper threading to make 8 total (another 4 logical) which is most important thing given your requirements
If you do OC you prob want to add an aftermarket cooler, the coolermaster TX3 is good value
Ive included the 1 gigabyte NVidia 250 gfx card, though tbh you could probably lower this, either get a 512mb or even lower such as a 9600 (assuming you dont game at all) this would save you more money
Obviously if you want to you can spend more on a better case but the one Ive included is perfectly adequate and great value, the mobo Ive included is microATX so that would be an option for you (its a great board too though, dont be fooled by this)
You say you like XP so I was assuming you'll be using an old copy? If I were you though I'd be tempted to look at a 64bit copy of windows 7, if you pre-order it now its only £66 and very good (best of xp and vista combined really) assuming your old copy of XP is 32 bit it wont be able to address all the systems memory
Hope this helps

Within your kind of price range the must have chip would be the i5 750. It's far superior for your needs than the phenom 720.

Any takers ?

Doesnt make sense to buy into DX10 stuff imo.
Add a cooler later on and you can squeeze the potential out of the CPU by overclocking it.

Thanks for the help guys. This is all new to me.

I like the sounds of this set up

Just some of the stuff is out of stock, the Ram memory

Plus I'd like a fan to cool the chip, but I've got no clue what fan would fit.?

The 870 will come with a stock Intel fan/heatsink and unless you're planning to overclock or ambient noise is a serious issue, it'll do the job just fine.

What do ya think guys.?

or even a 210
dont understand your reasoning of the caddy? theres still hdd bays inside the case (5 of) and by the time you add the caddy cost to the case cost (69+35=104) you can get a much better case in the first place

I understand. As I have said before, I am total n00b when it comes to this, & its your advice I need for help..

Hey
Well if you dont mind a white case (I think it looks quite stylish) this would be ideal, its all small form factor, very quiet efficient system overall
